      What to Know

      Critics Consensus

Nick Love's remake of the 1989 original has enough warmth, humor, and -- of course -- violence to make The Firm worthwhile.

Karl O This just served as a reminder of a few things. The original was great and didn't need a juvenile remake. Note to director - shaking a camera and handheld are different things. It also solidified my thought that Paul Anderson was a terrible actor even before Peaky Blinders over the top hamming. Layering the movie with 80s songs did not hide the fact that this was a newer movie clothed in bad track suits. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 11/28/22 Full Review Audience Member boy is drawn into football hooliganism and realises its not for him and finds it difficult to escape. forgettable and pointless as its been done much better before Rated 1 out of 5 stars 02/07/23 Full Review Audience Member These hooligan flicks are normally dog spunk but I thought this was class great soundtrack, good acting and some quality clothes. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/20/23 Full Review Audience Member Good football hooligan film that could rival the original Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/19/23 Full Review Audience Member A watchable, but a very much average film. While the subject matter revolves around football hooliganism, there is hardly any shots of football actually being played. The characters aren't well explored, leaving the viewer confused and bored.. Worth a watch if you've nothing else to do.. otherwise don't bother! Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/24/23 Full Review Audience Member A pretty unsatisfying coming-of-age film, I appreciate the efforts with costuming though. Paul Fairclough Little White Lies The Firm is hardly calculated to convert those who find Love's work brash, clichd and empty, but there's a good deal of warmth and humour here. Sep 18, 2009 Full Review Nigel Floyd Time Out Love's second movie about hooligans marks a quantum leap forward from the messy, senseless violence of 'The Football Factory'. Rated: 3/5 Sep 18, 2009 Full Review Wendy Ide Times (UK) While it doesn't exactly break new ground thematically, this is Love's most accomplished film to date. Like the terrace heroes who are its subjects, it's as good-looking and stylish as it is dangerously seductive. Rated: 3/5 Sep 18, 2009 Full Review Mike Edwards What Culture A watchable, but disappointing, movie that brings nothing new to the serious topic it addresses. Rated: 2/5 Mar 1, 2011 Full Review Simon Reynolds Digital Spy It's all ridiculously clichd and over the top, yet once you give up taking it seriously and surrender to its relentless blokeishness, The Firm proves to be an enjoyable Shane Meadows-lite ride with a bit of wideboy charm. Rated: 3/5 Sep 18, 2009 Full Review Elliott Noble Sky Cinema Love's film is ultimately pointless, having nothing new to say on the issues of male bonding, acceptance and tribalism.
