Andrew O'Hehir Salon.com Much of the allegorical force Harel and Sarmiento's film has built up is undone by its utterly conventional, lameass-switcheroo ending, which may be an indication that more than enough virtual ink has been spilled on this subject. Jul 22, 2009 Full Review Rex Reed Observer Written by a weirdo named Trent Haaga for no other purpose than to outrage, Deadgirl is part S&M porno, part supernatural chiller, and worthy only if you're interested in how far movies can go before the police arrive. Jul 22, 2009 Full Review Vadim Rizov Village Voice [It] has more fantastically blunt, clunky, and downright laughable teen-sex dialogue per minute than anything this side of Larry Clark. Jul 21, 2009 Full Review Trace Thurman Horror Queers Podcast While it's an undoubtedly harrowing watch (heed all the content warnings), Deadgirl fascinates as a twisted coming of age tale. Rated: 3/5 Nov 13, 2023 Full Review Joe Lipsett Horror Queers Podcast An extremely challenging film about toxic masculinity that is well made, but simultaneously unpalatable for most audiences. Begs the question: who is this for and how successful is it? Rated: 3.5/5 Nov 8, 2023 Full Review Christopher Long Movie Metropolis The filmmakers don't really push the envelope visually as much as they are trying to conceptually. Alex C interesting premise, very messed up but I enjoyed it. A different take on the zombie genre, acting was very good. Didn't expect the ending! Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 09/17/23 Full Review David W Unusual and strange zombie horror mixed with dark teenage sexual fantasy. It's a very cult, low budget, sexualised, indie horror flick and whilst pretty unique it never truly grabbed me. It's meant to be revealing of toxic teen masculinity and peer pressure but just ended up being mostly a bit tasteless. The acting is good and the effects, whilst low budget, do their job well. However, it's quite slow, largely unpleasant in nature and limited in its scope despite pretentions to be more than it is. I did like the twisted if predictable payoff ending though. Not bad but very, very niche. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 04/24/23 Full Review Clive G Cult classic and for discerning horror fans only Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/31/23 Full Review Sean D An extremely different spin on a zombie movie Call me crazy but I quite enjoyed this . It is pretty gross and disturbing. But being a life long horror fan you expect to come across the odd strange one. Which we don't mind if the film is good enough. And personally I will say this one had me really engrossed. I do like the two main actors in general, they do usually pick quite interesting projects. And the zombie girl I found pretty terrifying. So hats off to the actor who played her! Rated 4 out of 5 stars 11/15/22 Full Review lilac m Mid movie where everybody is unlikable. And i don't understand why they wouldn't give her a bath. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 10/29/22 Full Review Audience Member Well, isn't this an unpleasant little film. Genuine chills and tension to start, moody half-lit corridors - before revealing itself as the tawdry little shit stain that it is. Voyeuristic, devolving into teenage rape/whore fantasy - complete with a pathetic attempt to be sensitive and emotional while just flaunting it's hatred and fear of women.
