Though somewhat uneven in places, Fifty Dead Men Walking is a gripping portrayal of Ireland's violent history, carried by the strong performances of its lead actors.

isla s This is quite a gritty film, based on a true story. It features some moderate violence, including scenes of torture and so it might be an upsetting watch for some. It features good performances, although the (at times) jerky camerawork may frustrate some. If the story particularly interests you then it may be worth a watch but I wouldn't personally recommend it as such, no. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review kevin c Based on the true story of Martin McGartland, a young man from Belfast who is recruited by the British authorities to infiltrate and spy on the IRA. Risking his life and the safety of his family, he was instrumental in saving many lives with the information passed on. Jim Sturgess, Ben Kingsley and Rose McGowan star in this fascinating thriller. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Liam D Kari Skogland (Liberty Stands Still, The Stone Angel) delivers a powerful Thriller and telling me a story I didn't know before Rated 4 out of 5 stars 08/04/21 Full Review Audience Member A well crafted and intelligent movie that does a good job with a confusing and duplicitous subject matter. Loosely based on an autobiography, the movie focuses a bit too much on the family part of the story, which negatively effects the pacing and is the reason for the overly long run time. The acting is quality all the way around, believable and authentic. The movie does a good job with the multitude of characters and prevents confusion in keeping track off all of the players. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/24/23 Full Review Audience Member This movie was a harrowing thriller, poignant to watch, unsettling. The performances of Jim Sturgess, Ben Kingsley and the others were great. Good directing by Kari Skogland, who handled tension and action scenes superbly. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/21/23 Full Review Audience Member Pretty good for an Irish Serpico. The cast are solid, and there's some intense sequences. She keeps the players vivid and relatively honest, and never shies away from the brutalities. Rated: 3/4 Aug 21, 2009 Full Review Sarah Manvel Critic's Notebook In making a film about a real person's choices, Ms. Skogland should have been brave enough to say whether or not she agreed with them. By saying nothing, she says more than she seems to be aware. Aug 9, 2018 Full Review Dennis Schwartz Dennis Schwartz Movie Reviews An action-packed historical Irish thriller.
