Between a 6/10 and 7/10, the puzzlingly punctuated title is a tip-off that characters here are to be taken with several grains of mythopoeic salt. In the end, things wind down in an overly conventional way. But taken on the level of urban fable, though, the movie is a satisfyingly soulful exploration of the African diaspora and its beautiful discontents.

This risky, rewarding drama blends emotional naturalism with a formal style in the story of its three titular characters -- a young Jamaican-Canadian mother with sickle-cell anemia, an ex-boxer looking for a human connection and a 12-year-old boy.
