Zeba Blay Shadow and Act Enough cannot be said for how refreshing it is to see characters like these relate, interact, and grow with one another on screen. Mar 19, 2018 Full Review Sheri Linden The Hollywood Reporter Suitably low-key but sometimes under-realized, this drama is fueled by its working-class milieu and a heart-wrenching performance by Hill Harper. Feb 27, 2016 Full Review Martin Tsai Los Angeles Times The film feels coolly detached because the story and characters are underdeveloped. Feb 25, 2016 Full Review Andrew Parker That Shelf Oliver never backs away from difficult subject matter (semi-autobiographical, at that) and it's positively gut-wrenching to watch. Sep 6, 2019 Full Review Stephen Saito Moveable Fest So finely and honestly observed for much of its running time, the confidence doesn't seem to quite be there to let the film's most dramatic moments work on their own power without musical or editorial augmentation. Nov 22, 2018 Full Review John Fink The Film Stage 1982 is a strong debut feature with several brilliant scenes that ought to believe in itself a bit more. Mikey P This drama is potent and deeply touching. The portrayals by the actors were enthralling, especially Hill Harper's role as the devoted father and Troi Zee's portrayal of a young girl torn between her love for her mother and the devastating grip of drug addiction. This film is a must-watch for those interested in a brilliantly acted narrative on the strength of love and its ability to anchor a family in the face of immense challenges. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 10/11/23 Full Review Audience Member An ok movie!!! It wasn’t too entertaining, but it did touch on a major subject affecting May households in America!!! Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/23/19 Full Review Audience Member This movie is very emotional. I give it the top ranking, because the acting in the movie is real and raw. It's a hard, sad story line. But the emotion, strength, character, and what seems like transparency in Hill Harper makes the movie. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/03/23 Full Review Audience Member It was an okay movie, but there are at least 4 scenes where the actors have snot and mucus running out of their noses that really distracts from the moment...All I could picture was the director saying "Yeah, let it drip--it helps make the scene super-realistic!" When in reality--it just made me nauseous and totally ruined the scenes.... Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 01/19/23 Full Review Audience Member This is such a solid movie, I can't believe nothing really came of it beyond the festival circuit from a couple years ago. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/17/23 Full Review Audience Member Between a 6/10 and 7/10, suitably low-key but sometimes under-realized, this drama is fueled by its working-class milieu and a heart-wrenching performance by Hill Harper.
