J. Hoberman The New York Review of Books 03/07/2019
D'Souza is loath to give offense to what he seemingly regards as America's dominant culture. Indeed, one might just as easily interpret the entirety of 2016 as evidence of D'Souza over-compensation with regards to his feeling of post-colonial... Go to Full Review
Alan Scherstuhl Village Voice 08/31/2012
The film is a sleepy dud, a polemic that, like D'Souza himself, is at once both outrageous and deeply boring. Go to Full Review

The movie seems destined to irritate the president's supporters while mobilizing his detractors, even as it is doomed to win precious few converts. It's a textbook example of preaching to the choir. Go to Full Review
Megan Basham WORLD 06/19/2018
Segments dealing with the college-age Obama's political activities and his later involvement with domestic terrorists like Bill Ayers are... valid and illuminating territory for viewers who haven't heard these things before. Go to Full Review

Thomas H 09/03/2024 The movie was all made up things by the producer known by the people as the Indian A$$. Don’t waste your time on a movie that was made for political motives only. See more jona i 06/16/2020 Has its intelligence and imagination; though, leans more toward its imagination as it fills in the blanks by concocting fearful conspiracy theories. In many ways, its quality is student, at best. Its facts aren't wrong! The reasoning behind the facts is where there's a speculated stretch. And neither were the future projections completely wrong, especially about the national debt. What it does do extraordinarily well, and should be seen as its bottom line, is call attention to the need to truly understanding our most powerful leaders: read what resources we can (Obama's own books, in his case; news articles). Inform ourselves! Don't blindly trust a political party, social movement, or any smokescreen/flow proposed by a mass group.
