In the year 2149, a young man named Darwin lives, like everyone else; in a small cement module with little more than a computer. He uses it for everything. Verbal communication has died out, but he often instant messages his mother. Darwin is fearful of the outside world, which is widely believed to be contaminated. One night, during a violent storm, lightning hits Darwin's module, which knocks out his computer. He is forced to do the unthinkable and go outside into the vast expanse of landscape. He is surprised to come across a beautiful young woman named Dara, living with her family, in a cottage in the woods. They teach him how to speak and show him the value of actual human contact. He is compelled to journey forth and share the knowledge of his new found life with his mother who is still trapped... however will it be too late for her?

Brian Costello Common Sense Media It's a movie that should provoke discussion among older teens and parents about technology and its use and misuse, and how it has the power to both connect and disconnect people. Rated: 3/5 Jun 2, 2021 Full Review Read all reviews

Gayle G I love the idea of this movie, but the details made no sense. I had guessed early on that there was no longer any human thinking behind the machines and that they were being run by mindless AI programs, but how were the people in the pods being taken care of? Where did the food come from? Where did the vape supplies come from? Who cleaned up and provided water to the pods? Whose crazy idea was it to have one person per pod? Why were the police drones so unable to spot people hiding? No heat seeking capability? How did the kid live in the pod for 9 years and not see anything but that dog? There were birds around, why hadn't he seen those before? Why did he so quickly abandon his mom? Why didn't he go to her pod as soon as he stepped out of his? Why was everyone so afraid of the police drones? When one caught Darwin, nothing happened. It acted like him being outside of his pod and visiting his mother was perfectly normal. Shouldn't the deluded pod people have all been rescued as soon as he found out there was no longer any government? Darwin just went back to his found family and enjoyed himself and the free people made no attempt to rescue the ones in the pods. There was not nearly enough backstory for it to make any sense. I know it's allegorical and metaphorical, but it still needs to make internal sense. On to the next selection of endless media entertainment... Hope there aren't any power outages Rated 5 out of 5 stars 10/07/24 Full Review That's C Really horrible knock-off of E.M. Forster's novella, 'When the Machine Stops' written in 1909. The novella can be read in about the same time it takes to watch this film and is a much more rewarding experience. Way to bastardize a prophetic classic. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 10/20/23 Full Review pa u This dumb kids movie reminded me of college projects. Bad scripts, bad story, bad effects, bad acting. They took what should have been a ten minute short and wasted everyone's time dragging it out longer. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 03/25/23 Full Review Independent A Excellent acting, amazing plotline, and not nearly as slow-paced as the movie 2001.
