Katherine N The misleading title that fooled me into thinking that this was going to be another cheesy, overdone rom-com left me unprepared for the unpredictable and dark coming-of-age surprises that unfolded. I'll leave it at that so as not to spoil anything. Let me just say that I was very impressed with all the elements the movie had to bring, from the main cast's stellar acting, the tight script, the layers of metaphorical complexity, the fleshed-out characters, authenticity, exploration of fresh perspectives, soundtrack, cinematography, and overall production. If our protagonist Felix's constricted affect is ever misconstrued as an acting inadequacy, you only have to look into the depths of his gaze to read the tomes of feeling and rumination disproving this. It is warranted by the psychological toll exacted by the sequence of events and internal conflict that have unraveled any sense of security in his life. You'll also see this constriction loosen up when he meets the Snyders and cracks start forming in his flimsy emotional armor. The last part could have been a smidge more cohesive, but it may very well be that its fragmented structure is also reflective of Felix's own traumatic dissociation and loss of control.
