Ed . Aug 29 14k comedy in SD Sometimes, what happens in Greece should stay in Europe. Less than believable yet still enjoyable story. Liv Ullmann, a prudish, uptight 40yo, needs constant convincing in accepting a 23 year old's marriage proposal. They had a one nighter in Greece and a few chaste days in New York City. Liv Ullmann gives no reason for this chase. I expect there was a post-movie divorce not long afterward. So, why is this enjoyable? Likeable actors, good natured plot and nostalgia for simpler times all help. Edward Albert Jr. plays a believable cougar chaser with a confident sex appeal. The intergenerational playful exchanges between a young, lovely Deborah Raffin and grandma Binnie Barnes provide comic relief. Gene Kelly plays a >2D ex husband with humor and elegance. Don Porter as Albert's father also goes beyond cartoon caricature alternating feigned support of the union with forceful, if honest, grilling of Ullmann with realistic questions about the viability of her relationship with Albert. In short, this is a 2-star movie that is elevated by its enjoyable cast and its breezy pace.
