Critics Consensus

47 Meters Down doesn't take its terrifying premise quite as far as it should, but its toothy antagonists still offer a few thrills for less demanding genre enthusiasts.

Frank Scheck The Hollywood Reporter But on its own B-movie terms 47 Meters Down works just fine, not wearing out its welcome thanks to its quick set-up, rapid pacing and brief running time. Dec 27, 2017 Full Review Stephen Romei The Australian It's not a great film but, once the preliminary scenes on terra firma are over and we descend to a place we don't belong, it delivers an hour or so of sustained physical and psychological terror. Rated: 3/5 Sep 1, 2017 Full Review Tara Brady Irish Times British director Johannes Roberts makes decent use of the murk (the film was largely shot in a tank in London) and the sisterhood theme gives the film a broader appeal than, say, The Shallows. Rated: 3/5 Aug 15, 2017 Full Review Cris Kennedy The Canberra Times (Australia) The four leads are fine. This feels like a collective of Hollywood kids who got a lucky break on Bring Your Daughter to Work Day. Rated: 3/5 Aug 12, 2022 Full Review Meredith Jill Brown Dread Central The film moves at a steady, scary pace with plenty of "uh-oh" moments to keep you on your toes. Rated: 3/5 Aug 24, 2021 Full Review Robin Holabird Robin Holabird Sure enough, chains break, and the result leads to the kind of tense and bloody moments Shark Week fans adore. Lincoln D 47 Meters Down is a generic film that defenetly sunk into the ocean. While it is thrilling and gripping, it dosen't take the movie as far as entertainmentOne can go. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 12/07/24 Full Review Stanny R As far as shark movies go, 47 Meters Down isn’t too bad of an option to watch. Far from great but very sharks movies are. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 09/07/24 Full Review Audience Member Leave for the movie Come for Mandy moore This movie was so disappointing I had to write my first review. Two girls of which half know how to scuba dive. Agree to lock in a shark cage (think jaws) when they get stranded on the ocean floor you get no story about what's going on at the oceans surface. You don't know if they are left for dead or a rescue is underway. Seems like a cheaply made film. Camera man cant get the shots right underwater because the cage is always in his way. once you say to yourself why would that character say something like that you'll realize the movies direction. If this is the only DVD left in blockbuster I still wouldn't watch it Rated 3 out of 5 stars 07/23/24 Full Review Julia V This movie was ok…. I watched it with my sister and we both were scared at some times but not a lot of shark action happened in the first half. Also… THEY SHOULDVE KEPT THE ENDING WHERE SHE WAS HALLUCINATING BC IT ADDED AN EARY FEEL TO IT!!!! If they kept the ending as that I would’ve given it 4 stars… Rated 3 out of 5 stars 07/12/24 Full Review Jon W I haven't seen this movie, but as a long time Scuba Diver, I dismissed this one based on the name alone. Maximum depth to non mixed gas diving maxes out at 120 Feet. "47 meters" in a cage means that the likelihood of coming back is extremely UN-likely, as 47 meters converts to 154.199 feet (34.199 ft (1 standard atmosphere) deeper than physics allow) meaning that nitrogen narcosis would finish these divers long before the sharks got to them. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 07/08/24 Full Review Louis E So dissappointed, I'm an easy scare, but this movie is so DULL and Boring. If you need help sleeping, buy this movie and watch it close to bedtime, it will put you right to sleep! What a waste of time. I plan to watch the sequel I hear it's much better! The acting was good however, it was just the lack of plot and not one SCARE! Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 06/05/24 Full Review Read all reviews
