What to Know

Critics Consensus

5 Flights Up is a bit of a narrative fixer-upper, but when it comes to watching Diane Keaton and Morgan Freeman share screen time, you really can't beat the view.

Jake Wilson Sydney Morning Herald As storytelling, 5 Flights Up is remarkably clumsy: the narrative strands never knit together, the well-intentioned messages are awkwardly spelt out, and the stakes remain low. That said, it's an easy film to watch. Rated: 2.5/5 Aug 19, 2015 Full Review Jonathan Romney Observer (UK) A dusty, undemanding piece of Sunday afternoon liberalism. Rated: 2/5 Jul 26, 2015 Full Review Wendy Ide Times (UK) Even Freeman at his twinkliest and Keaton at her most kooky and adorable are not enough to sweeten the bad taste left by Ruth & Alex. Rated: 2/5 Jul 23, 2015 Full Review Alberto Abuín Espinof They and their past, both fictional and real, ARE the movie, lazy to reflect the truth, but kind and emotional enough. [Full Review in Spanish] Apr 15, 2020 Full Review Ellena Zellhuber-McMillan One Room With A View Without its lead characters, Ruth & Alex would be as forgettable as your aunt's birthday. Though solid in its filmmaking it fails to shine as a whole. Rated: 2/5 May 4, 2019 Full Review John Bleasdale CineVue Ultimately too fluffy to offer anything real. The comedy isn't funny enough and the social commentary at times verges on the smug. Rated: 2/5 Apr 5, 2019 Full Review Read all reviews

Troy C Why do New Yorkers always think the rest of us wish we were New Yorkers? This charm-free fable is brattish (Freeman) and boorish (Keaton) and drudges along for way too long. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 02/25/23 Full Review Audience Member To me it felt like…..Nothing really happend in the story, they are right back where they started really. However, I really liked the acting and how the story was told and the various characters thought the whole…adventure. It is a light watch, nothing dramatic, a bit warm and cozy. Watch it for the acting, scenery and a few eccentric characters. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/05/23 Full Review Audience Member Mama is visiting, so this was a perfect Netflix movie. Older couple, cute, a little funny, decent language, no sex -- really perfect! Freeman (the master) & Keaton were good together on-screen, and Lily (played by Cynthia Nixon of Sex in the City fame) was perhaps, the highlight for me. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/20/23 Full Review Audience Member I love it! Morgan Freeman and Diane Keaton are so likeable. This movie was just what I needed. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/17/23 Full Review Audience Member This wasn't an action packed movie, but it was very good. And how can you not love Morgan Freeman and Diane Keaton!? Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/17/23 Full Review Audience Member It was ok overall, not terribly exciting and the story summed up was about real estate, terrorism, and an ailing dog.
