Carrie Preston

Carrie Preston was an actress who had a successful Hollywood career. In 1995, she made her Broadway debut starring as Miranda in "The Tempest." In 1997, she appeared opposite Vanessa Redgrave in "Antony and Cleopatra" at the Joseph Papp Public Theater. In 2006, she acted in "Festen" on Broadway. In 2005, she directed first feature, "29th and Gay." Early on in her acting career, Preston landed roles in various films, including the dramedy "The Journey" (1997) with Roshan Seth Obe, the Julia Roberts hit romantic comedy "My Best Friend's Wedding" (1997) and "For Richer Or Poorer" (1997). She also appeared in "Mercury Rising" (1998), the dramatic adaptation "Woman Wanted" (1999) with Holly Hunter and "Guinevere" (1999) with Sarah Polley. She kept working in film throughout the early 2000s, starring in the dramatic adaptation "The Stepford Wives" (2004) with Nicole Kidman, "Straight-Jacket" (2004) and the Felicity Huffman dramatic comedy "Transamerica" (2005). She also appeared in "Lovely By Surprise" (2007). Preston was nominated for an Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series Screen Actors Guild Award for "True Blood" in 2010 as well as for an Outstanding Guest Actress In a Drama Series Primetime Emmy Award for "The Good Wife" in 2016. Preston won an Outstanding Guest Actress In a Drama Series Primetime Emmy Award for "The Good Wife" in 2013. Film continued to be her passion as she played roles in "Virginia" (2012) with Jennifer Connelly, the drama "Who's Afraid of Vagina Wolf?" (2014) with Anna Margarita Albelo and the drama "Beneath The Harvest Sky" (2014) with Emory Cohen. She also appeared in the comedy adaptation "5 Flights Up" (2015) with Morgan Freeman. Most recently, Preston appeared in "When We Rise" (2017). Preston's husband was Michael Emerson.
