Part investigative documentary, part real-life gangster movie, 69: The Saga of Danny Hernandez unpacks the life of polarizing rap sensation and internet troll Tekashi69. One of the most controversial figures in contemporary pop culture, 69 repeatedly broke the internet with his sensationalist music videos and social media beefs before infamously testifying against Brooklyn gang the Nine Trey Gangsta Bloods in a landmark trial. Director Vikram Gandhi (KUMARÉ, BARRY) gets up close and personal with the neighborhood locals who knew 69 when he was still just Danny Hernandez—before the hard-core persona and the face tattoos—to chronicle his meteoric rise and fall from fame and probe the harsh extremes of addiction to fame in the digital era.

Mark Kermode Kermode & Mayo's Film Review It gave its subject a fair hearing, and the documentary maker was challenging his own motives for making the film and questioning everything... Jun 23, 2021 Full Review Kevin Maher Times (UK) It tries to ask huge questions about digital culture and moral disintegration, but is consistently hampered by the crass repugnance of its subject. Rated: 2/5 Jun 14, 2021 Full Review Wendy Ide Observer (UK) This intriguing documentary fails to fully answer [its] questions, but it does shine a light on a particularly uneasy aspect of internet celebrity. Rated: 3/5 Jun 13, 2021 Full Review Johnny Loftus Decider Tells a furiously contemporary tale in the memes, madness, and body morphing that make a rap star in the Millennial age. Nov 19, 2020 Full Review Jacob Oller Paste Magazine 69 is surprisingly (ahem) by-the-numbers considering its bombastic subject matter. Rated: 6.9/10 Nov 17, 2020 Full Review Read all reviews

mark b The documentary itself is excellent. Beyond that, this guy brings out every loser with no life who wants to have a scapegoat to talk ish and obfuscate. Our society has been in great decline and this kid is not that cause of that. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Bing M As documentaries go, this was remarkably well made. I'm to old to give a f$ck about little Danny69. As was briefly mentioned, the similarities to Trump and the rainbow punk snitch are eerily similar. Takashit69 is just the 21st C version of the eternal tyrant. Joe Stalin for the Instagram age. They thrive on hatred and are master media manipulators. Whatever their beginnings, their saga of their rise to power always follows a simple rule, divide and conquer. How long until his demise and how many others he'll destroy on the way is just entertaining speculation like the rest of "the news." Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/29/21 Full Review Audience Member Gave documentary 5 stars even though I should've given 1.5 stars just because I do not want this scum "69" to get more fame. I think its a Perfect story on "What Not to do to get Famous". Never heard of Daniel "69" tattoos nor his music on any platform subscriptions we have SiriusXM, Spotify, Apple, Amazon to just regular radio. But heck he sure made it easy on FBI agents assigned to gang crime to do their jobs. I feel bad for anyone even if they are a criminal, who thought he was their friend. Its plain to see Daniel 69 didn't have friends, he had pawns he used to his benefit. All while posting brags on how he is a rapist while laughing & smiling all over social media. What man wants a person like this on the street running wild who likes to brag about raping? While he is also stealing video choreography? I'm surprised any gang member finding out what he really did with a little girl put up with that! Especially those members who have a sister or a daughter at home. Gangs used to consider family scared. Why didn't those who found out he was a rapist all walk away from him then? One man was strong enough to distanced himself! This whole thing is sad. ***From one mother to another if little "69" does get more famous I hope that his daughter's mother takes him to court for all the money he makes! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/11/23 Full Review KARL O There's a whole lot of footage in need of a good editor and a coherent script. A single full sentence somewhere along the line would have been a revelation. The directors closing dialogue is a ridiculous attempt at relevance. There are plenty of good documentaries out there. This is far from one of them. I think I fell asleep for 30 minutes in the middle. Made no difference. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 03/01/21 Full Review Sean W This guy tries so hard to find something redeemable about him. Gotta admire that. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/24/21 Full Review Audience Member Get this 'my little pony' haired pedophile and rapist off large platforms and get him back behind bars where he belongs Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 01/20/23 Full Review Read all reviews
