John J. Puccio Movie Metropolis ...plenty of fog to provide creepy atmosphere and plenty of murky spaces to provide thrills. Unfortunately, that's about all we get. Rated: 5/10 Jun 16, 2010 Full Review Read all reviews

Audience Member Good hunter never break twig under foot--Hot money and flying knives!! Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/22/23 Full Review Audience Member Another Charlie Chan movie, this one produced by Monogram. Chan here is played by Toler, and is investigating on the murder of a man on a ferry in which many of the passengers seem to be involved. With good comedy breaks and nice twists, what this film lacks is consistency; the plot and subplots don't gel as much as they should, but that's the clear sign of a rushed screenplay. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/24/23 Full Review bill t Probably the worst in the series (and I've got a wee bit to go yet) Chan goes on (another) cruise where an American Diplomat is murdered. Chan tries to solve it. Seems to get stupider, cornier, and more racist as it goes on. The finale is pretty ridiculous. Willie Best is so goddamn horrible. ACK. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review Audience Member Once again Chan is on a sea cruise (this time to Australia by way of Samoa) when a T-man is killed right in front of him. So naturally Chan has to find the killer with the help of number two son Jimmy and Chattanooga Brown (Willie Best) pinch hitting for cousin Birmingham (Mantan Moreland). I actually think the Willie Best-Sen Yung combination works better than Sen Yung-Moreland. Best is younger and closer to Jimmy's age so they come off more as buds. Best is also way more athletic than Moreland and can do a lot more. I really liked that combination. The mystery itself is okay though nothing special. One of the suspects is the future mayor of Mayberry. ***SPOILER*****It's pretty rare when Chan catches a transvestite murderer, but there you have it.
