Near impossible to tell where it was headed until it was all resolved in the end and with a satisfying ending. Ireland delivered his usual workman like performance but McCambridge was perfect for the part. Just perfect as the vulnerable, down on her luck gal torn on how to deal with a man she liked but was afraid to take a chance on. Kind of an annoying voice you expect from a waitress which made the great singing all the more surprising. The only failure I could see was a ridiculous bar fight scene with some of the worst choreography I've ever seen. They messed something up in editing and a guy reacted to a punch that was never delivered on screen.
