Tim S The original main cast from the long running, much loved, BBC T.V Series "Dad's Army" bring the same humour and warmth to the big screen. Many favourites of 1970's British T.V. shows and sitcoms also had big screen releases but couldn't match their T.V. success.  "Dad's Army The Movie" was an exception.  Unlike other sitcoms that were only studio based, the winning formula for this film was the original T.V. series was not just confined to a small inside set. On many occasions the series was filmed outdoors sometimes on manoeuvres or training which  allowed "Dad's Army" to transfer more easily to the big screen. "Dad's Army The Movie" feels a little like a prequel to the original series. This is due to the storylines main focus on the creation of the Walmington-on-Sea volunteer home guard during World War 2. The actors are familiar to both each other and the audience and are extremely comfortable in their roles. Arthur Lowe is perfect as the bundling Captain Mainwaring and with excellent support from T.V. regulars John Le  Mesurier and Clive Dunn, "Dads Army The Movie" is a fun romp through the mishaps of the most famous U.K. Home Guard unit. Even more than 50 years on "Dads Army The Movie" still manages to deliver some laugh out loud moments particularly to those that fondly remember the T.V. series. ( What is clear however is unless you are aware of the original series there may seem to be a few politically incorrect scenes and some questionable dialogue. This was a reflection of the characters in the series and of course both the era it represents and when it was filmed.) It is a shame to watch this and ruin the memories of the original series and film. My strong advice is not even to give it a minute.
