Elizabeth Kerr The Hollywood Reporter The trouble with Chongqing Hot Pot is that despite its brief running time, it takes too long to bring its various threads together. Apr 12, 2016 Full Review Richard Kuipers Variety Chinese heist caper starts out as a tasty dish, but turns bland before long. Apr 12, 2016 Full Review Noel Murray Los Angeles Times "Chongqing Hot Pot" effectively stokes the fantasy that with the right breaks, a group of struggling, hard-working folks can get their just reward. It's a tasty notion, if not enough to nourish an entire movie. Apr 1, 2016 Full Review Harris Dang easternKicks.com Chongqing Hot Pot is a hearty meal that mixes its multiple genres with enough spice and meat to savour most audiences out there. Rated: 3.5/5 Oct 30, 2018 Full Review Edmund Lee South China Morning Post Chongqing Hot Pot is an awkward blend of friendship drama and heist thriller that unwittingly trades all its narrative intrigue for senseless violence in the final third. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member Fantastic and beautifully made film. The score and timing of the music really changes the atmosphere. Many scenes were done in a way that keeps you on the edge and many were done with just raw emotion. Wish there was more to the characters and more time were spent showing their connection, background, comrade-ry. Overall, it surprised me and thinking back it is probably the most memorable film I've seen for 2016 so far. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/26/23 Full Review Audience Member This was one of the standouts of the Asian Film Festival of Dallas of the 23 movies I saw, and probably my personal favorite. A character driven black comedy of the very best sort, that I walked away recommending to pretty much everybody. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 01/25/23 Full Review Audience Member The nice surprise is that the city of chongqing has an unexpected magnificent futuristic skyline that is quite beautiful actually. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 01/18/23 Full Review Audience Member I'd seen way better ones. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/04/23 Full Review Audience Member Never enjoyed a movie this much in years. Its a heist thriller revolving around three childhood friends who run into financial trouble..and yeah, you can probably already guess where this is going. But it has a surprising twist to it that I didn't see coming (but this might just be me). The movie was very funny and kept my attention, Although some may not have enjoyed the middle-part of the story because of its sentimentality, I think it was crucial in fleshing out the story. Also, the visuals were stunning. And the acting was great. In terms of enjoyment, it's a 9/10 for me. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 02/24/23 Full Review Read all reviews
