Audience Member 9 Mornings is a romantic drama movie top billed by lead actor Piolo Pascual paired with Donita Rose and directed by Jose Javier Reyes. Yes, it is a romance genre movie but it at the same time it also qualifies to be an inspirational movie. This is largely due to the lead character development of Gene Ynfante played by Pascual who started as a bad and doesn't-care-to-anyone type person until he realizes the importance of Christmas, his good life and most importantly his purpose and worth in his lifetime. For me, this is kind of inspiring moviegoers about the true meaning of Christmas and finding your purpose in life by maximizing your time, blessing and good fortune. These are the good lessons that 9 Mornings want to leave with us but without being preachy, religious and melodramatic in every scene. Donita Rose is fine as she is but I just wish she was utilized more in the story rather than a love team pair and supporting act. Its story is simple, light without heavy drama or conflict and well-written. It ignites the Christmas spirit being Simbang Gabi (Night Mass) as the central theme of the movie's story. And I think this is appropriate for Christmas time/season if you are looking for Filipino movie with Christmas theme. If there was a letdown for it to be memorable that would be tying a deeper conflict, issue or story to the film so it could have more action. But hey, it's a Christmas movie! Its heartwarming and doesn't have to be over dramatic tearjerker nor stressful conflict infested movie. 9 Mornings refers to the Filipino Christmas tradition of Simbang Gabi, a series of 9 early morning Christmas masses that ends up on Christmas day.
