Conscientious grocery store clerk Alena (Anne Heywood) begins an affair with her scapegrace boss, Vorell (James Booth), that is based largely on the intensity of their shared physical attraction. Problems arise, however when an auditor, Mr. Kurka (Rudolf Hrusínský), visits the store and discovers that someone has been stealing from the inventory. Alena knows it's Vorell, but struggles to keep it a secret as Kurka puts an increasing amount of pressure on her, making her life miserable.
