When spoiled Tom Skelton (Peter Fonda) comes back home to Key West, Fla., he decides to put his wayward days behind him and start a business. Borrowing from his wealthy grandfather (Burgess Meredith), he opens a fishing guide service and immediately runs afoul of the competition. Blue collar guides Nichol Dance (Warren Oates) and Carter (Harry Dean Stanton) resent Tom, and try to pressure him into quitting. Tom retaliates by blowing up their boat, and the conflict only escalates from there.

Released the same year as Ranch Deluxe adapts his book and directs, which is the best decision he made. Warren Oates is wonderful, as usual.

full of great american character actors, whose performances are really all that save an anemic script poorly executed by a one-time director. if you're a fan of warren oates and joe spinnell, however, this is a must-see, as it's the only film i'm aware of in which they shared the frame, if only for one fleeting scene. this never saw the light of day on dvd; thankfully, at least one vhs rip is making the rounds.

A great cast produces somewhat disappointing results... after scoring huge with RACE WITH THE DEVIL & THE HIRED HAND, my expectations were sky high for this third Peter Fonda/Warren Oates effort.
