Kenneth Turan Los Angeles Times Brings an instinctive yet clear-eyed sympathy for these women's remarkable story, joined with an ability to be candid about the difficulties that arose within the group and with the greater Hasidic community. Aug 15, 2018 Full Review Jordan Hoffman Village Voice '93Queen' joins the long and expanding list of bad documentaries covering a fantastic subject. Jul 27, 2018 Full Review Ben Kenigsberg New York Times Without denying that these women face discrimination in reaching their goal, the movie shows how its subjects are able to find ways to combine strict observance and progress. Jul 24, 2018 Full Review Jennifer Merin AWFJ.org Ruchie is quite a character! Oct 1, 2021 Full Review Anne Brodie AWFJ.org It's a great story - but overshadowed by blatant sexism. After all, she's not modest. She's too busy saving lives. Oct 1, 2021 Full Review Nikki Baughan AWFJ.org "Fasten your seat belt and let's move," says Hasidic Jewish woman Rachel 'Ruchie' Freier early on in 93Queen, and you'd be wise to follow her advice. dave d '93 Queen' is a documentary feature that focuses on Rachel "Ruchie" Freier, a no-nonsense Hasidic lawyer and mother of six who has her hopes set on starting an all-female Hasidic EMT group. Freier is a polarizing figure who has both inspiring and unlikeable qualities. One thing is clear she wants power and she'll do whatever it takes to get there. In the cut throat world of EMTs, only the strong survive! Hubby: 6.9/Wife: 7.7 Average: 7.3/10 Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member Very interesting and candid look at women in this community where, indeed, "feminism" does not exactly apply in that Chasidism has a concept of womanhood as separate but equal, with clearly defined strengths, roles and identity. There was a plot to this documentary -- in the creation of a new kind of organization, the roles and relationships among the people involved, resistence from many in the community, work, the trials and triumphs and the glass ceiling broken by the dynamic leader. I found it hard not to get annoyed by her confidence and the way the female-EMS idea's originator somehow ended up hurt. Being a product of the '60s who later learned some orthodoxy, I'm not sure how one can wear a gorgeous wig and show (off) one's great figure and still be modest, or when one is hiding one's light under a bushel. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/06/23 Full Review Audience Member An excellent movie. The documentarians provided information and didn’t lean in the direction of the Orthodox women and against their male counterparts. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 08/19/18 Full Review Audience Member I just saw this movie at the San Francisco Jewish Film Festival and absolutely loved it! I was deeply touched and insipred!
