Yellowfur D 09/19/2023 I wasn't moved at all, not enthusiastic at all. I just felt that all the female characters were wedding dresses for his heroic story. See more 05/07/2010 Competent filmmaker Daniel Lee moves mainly below the radar outside his native Hong Kong, which is a shame really, since he quite reliably manages to combine commercial appeal with strong plotlines and meaningful content. A Fighter's Blues is a fine example in which Lee also makes Andy Lau perform like a real method actor, an achievment only Wong Kar Wai has been able to reach previously. And it sure is a real treat to witness Lau shed his loveable tough guy persona along with the old fake Ray Bans, for a psychologically believable character study of a man coming to terms with his past. The muay thai theme is merely an irrelevant diversion here, a bait to lure in fans of the sport perhaps, but for benevolence sake Lee makes sure to insert some great Rocky-moments at the end.
