Vachel Lindsay The New Republic In the Romance of the Redwoods it begins to appear that the higher the imagination of Mary Pickford’s scenario writer and director, the more sensitive her response. Feb 18, 2022 Full Review Read all reviews

Audience Member A Romance of the Redwoods tells the story of young girl named Jenny Lawrence (Mary Pickford) who goes out west to live with her uncle during the famous Gold Rush in California but realizes that he has been killed by Native Americans and his identity has been stolen by a bandit. This film is slightly average yet serviceable. Maybe because despite having Mary Pickford, Cecil B. DeMille does not know where to go from there. Mr. DeMille poorly executed this film in what had so much potential but it ended up just being an average yet serviceable motion picture. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/18/23 Full Review Audience Member A young woman is sent over to her uncle, only to find his identity has been stolen by an outlaw. Soon enough, she even falls in love with him and decides to help him run straight. Being DeMille, this is a solid production, and Pickford's performance is excellent, but there is little to distinguish this from other silent melodramas built around an all too familiar and popular storyline of the time, that in the end usually resulted in a somewhat strained happy ending. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/24/23 Full Review Audience Member As I make my way through the CB DeMille silent films, they are becoming more and more watchable. This one has the very watchable and adorable Mary Pickford. I can see why she was such a big star. The stories are becoming better crafted too and the acting, though hammy, is becoming more realistic. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/20/23 Full Review Audience Member This is defently one of my Favourie Movies a Mixture of Western, Drama and Melodrama which shows the True Face of the Wild West long before Leone, Corbucci and Eastwood. Eliott Dexter & Mary Pickford play hillarious and the Soundtrack is bombastic. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/16/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating
