Alan W Worst version ever made. The director forced his actors to be as stilted, quiet, and emotionless as possible. The sets were bare of decoration, the soundtrack is abysmal. There is no misery early, and no joy late. What possessed them to make this travesty? Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 12/09/21 Full Review Audience Member I really don't know why someone would try to make A Christmas Carol a scary movie. It already has elements to provoke fear, such as ghosts, time travel and a deep message about how bad deeds go punished and good will is rewarded. I don't care if people have their own versions or take a new spin on the story. There have always been a new Christmas Carol movie almost every year, even if the storyboard, the script, the plot, ect. never changes, it's still a classic that's been readdapted into many versions for an entire century, since the creation of film itself. This film is no differant, however it still has many flaws. Someone talking in the background, while we look at odd faces of people looking blankfully at the corner of the room. The lighting was bad, the delivery of every line is lazy, the pace is either too slow or too fast. The effects are awful with no effort. I know there was no effort put into special effects or the acting in general. I feel like i was watching a porno movie, without the porn. The ambient music is great, just not for a Christmas movie. The music sounds like it was reused in other bad horror movies from remakes of scary movies based over used fairy stories, Red Riding Hood and Hansel and Gretel. There is also this poor lighting as if i'm watching this movie through a dark tube. That's not scary, it's annoying and it just shows that the makers of this film tried putting too much effort into trying to be scary, at the same time it's just poor lighting that gets distracting. Again, i have to ask. Why would you make the effort of making A Christmas Carol into a horror movie? It makes as much sense as those movies about making H.P. Lovecrafts characters into a childrens movie trilogy. If someone does manage to make a horror Christmas Carol, they would have to consider adding in more adult themes that's not relalated nor apart of the original story, while taking away the pleasantness and kind hearted theme the original story has. It just can't be done. This movie is a masterpiece failure and another example of what Not to do, to make a horror movie. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 01/23/23 Full Review Audience Member I liked the artwork and lighting. The expressive music enhanced the mood of the movie. The creep factor is definitely a credit to the film. The actors playing Cratchit and Scrooge's nephew had what I feel to be a wide range of authentic emotion. Scrooge had less. Maybe to show his stinginess of even his expression of emotion. It was very close if not the closest I've experienced to the original written story. I would only criticize the actor's unnatural style of speaking. This was not unlike many interpretations of how one should speak in a period piece like this or a Shakespearean play. This is my pet peeve that many people don't share. So all in all, this ghost story is a very good Christmas movie and lesson on the importance of the caring of the less fortunate. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 02/14/23 Full Review Read all reviews
