Matthew Monagle Austin Chronicle The whole thing might've held together with more consistent character work. Ignoring the suggestion that the 63-year-old actor might be playing an inexperienced cop, the elder Van Peebles brings plenty of heft to a middling character. Rated: 1.5/5 Jun 5, 2020 Full Review Rich Cline Shadows on the Wall The way everyone behaves in this movie comes from hostage situation movies rather than real-life. Rated: 2.5/5 Jun 11, 2020 Full Review Jordan Calhoun Black Nerd Problems A Clear Shot is a clear miss. Jun 11, 2020 Full Review Alex Saveliev Film Threat Mario Van Peebles single-handedly imbues it with enough gravitas to make it somewhat watchable. Still, it begs the question: has he read the script, and if so, what was he thinking? Rated: 4/10 Jun 11, 2020 Full Review Jeffrey M. Anderson Common Sense Media Based on real events, this hostage thriller has some timely, thoughtful things to say about race and (in)equality, but due to its low budget and its lack of suspense, it ultimately misses the mark. Rated: 2/5 Jun 6, 2020 Full Review Brian Orndorf Blu-ray.com Weirdly ambitious in some areas and far too low wattage in others, with Leisure unable to reach any noticeable levels of suspense as he wages war with limited budgetary coin. Bahad j This idea of the film shooting technique director made the film more attractive to people. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 07/06/24 Full Review Audience Member Many errors. Unrealistic, very! Insult to anyone over the mental age of 12 years old! Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 01/23/23 Full Review Audience Member Based very, very loosely on the Best Buys hostage event around 1990 in Sacramento, CA, this film manages to take an intensely riveting, highly stressful situation and turn it into a two dimensional direct-to-DVD snoozefest. But, that's what you get with Mario Van Peebles every time. How anyone lends him a camera is beyond me. Making matters worse, he cast family (Think Godfather 3 and how that ruins a film). The true story is worth looking up. It was an absolute no-win situation for the cops, and people died that day. But anyone who examines what happened will conclude that the cops saved a lot of lives. And, they will also cringe when they watch this film. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 01/17/23 Full Review Read all reviews
