merance a This is an underrated movie in my opinion. The acting was fantastic. Andrew Scott was very believable as an awkward, simple man driven to solve a mystery. Some reviewers didn't understand why he had the drive to find the answers but they weren't following the movie and character close enough to see that this obsessiveness was part of his nature and from his own life trauma's where no one bothered to care. I do believe there is underlying theme here lost on some viewers as well - that the simplest person in the room is often the wisest most moral person - "Out of the mouth of babes" comes to mind when I think about the premise of this movie. Andrew's Scott's conveyance of his character's loss of innocence as he discovered the depravity of those around him was also spot on. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 04/12/24 Full Review Rose T Underrated film and exquisite performance from Andrew Scott. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/08/24 Full Review Larry L I loved this movie...Top notch acting and a different perspective from someone else's eyes. It's an awesome movie! Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 08/30/23 Full Review Jim S It's a tour de force for Andrew Scott. He seems to have understood this character perfectly. Donny is socially awkward, weird, but no fool, no idiot, and finally, no coward. It's a mystery, yes, but the story is about how Donny discovers, then pursues, the mystery. The mood of the film is somber, the filming reflecting the overcast weather, the oppressive humid heat, quietly keeping the tension alive at just the right level. The director did quite well establishing space for the actor's to portray their characters rather than just rush through lines of dialogue. It seems weird to me that the professional critics seem to have wanted or expected a more standard mystery flick. It's about the main character Donny from the start, so I don't understand their confusion. Anyway, ignore them and see how impressive this film is for yourself. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 07/22/23 Full Review Tyler T Small town USA, dark movie. Only thing I couldn't get behind is the entire town being in on the diddling cover up. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review Trey W Not sure why he took such an interest in the case but other than a few questions good movie. Andrea Gronvall Chicago Reader [Andrew] Scott here fascinates as a vulnerable yet remarkably resilient odd duck. Mar 24, 2020 Full Review Tim Cogshell FilmWeek (KPCC - NPR Los Angeles) If it had simply lived in its mystery... than I think it would have been a more powerful movie. Sep 27, 2019 Full Review Kevin Maher Times (UK) The film, alas, despite [Andrew Scott's] best efforts, is dramatically inert and riddled with plot holes.
