Audience Member I saw this documentary at the 2013 Cleveland International Film Fest. It was in a double feature about Cleveland history with The Sugar Wars. Des Kilbane, a distant relative of subject Johnny Kilbane, has done an exceptional job with this, his directorial debut. From the music, to the narration, to the beauty shots of Cleveland and Ireland, this documentary shows its Irish heart. There is a wealth of photos, memorabilia, interviews, Kilbane's own memoir, historical records, and archival films presented to document the featherweight's life. Johnny was as much a performer as a boxer. This film shows he was also a devoted family man. As proof we get to see many awesome film clips of Johnny fighting as well as early home movies. He even appeared on vaudeville stages, which goes to show that things have not changed so much with athletes crossing over into the entertainment business. Johnny Kilbane stayed connected to his hometown and eventually entered local politics. A very uplifting story. Rated 4/5 Stars •  Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/01/23 Full Review Read all reviews
