Tina Hassannia Globe and Mail The film tries too hard to sensationalize a real-life story that has already been sensationalized enough - the kind that's too strange for fiction - but in doing so undermines the narrative's own weirdness. Rated: 2/4 Aug 21, 2015 Full Review Peter Howell Toronto Star The film is reminiscent of Catfish in its essential circumstances of love and online deception, but it goes far deeper into how virtual lies cause tangible problems. Rated: 3/4 Aug 20, 2015 Full Review Mark Jenkins NPR Even those who followed Amina's rise and fall in the ultimately chastened media will find Gay Girl a nifty piece of detective work. Jul 26, 2015 Full Review Dayne Linford Battleship Pretension Amina is documentary filmmaking of the highest sort, an opportunity to expand the horizons of and provoke response from the viewer through the generous and honest reflections of the participants. Jan 14, 2021 Full Review Aaron Peterson The Hollywood Outsider Deraspe and Bagaria captured my heart and mind on their torturous journey, and the conclusion was far deeper than those opening frames ever alluded to. Rated: 7/10 Oct 24, 2018 Full Review Mae Abdulbaki Punch Drunk Critics The Amina Profile is a fascinating look at a bizarre and intriguingly shocking story. Audience Member La peor pelicula del 2121. Demasiada baja la calidad, presupuesto, todo. Hasta las actuaciones son pésimas. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 02/01/23 Full Review Audience Member This movie struggles to find the focal point of the story. I wish the director would have picked between catfishing, the plight of Syria, and media irresponsibility. There were many times when I thought the movie was going nowhere and there were many scenes that I thought were unnecessary. It could have been told in 30 minutes and it could have been a great pilot for "Catfish - International" Rated 2 out of 5 stars 01/15/23 Full Review Read all reviews
