What to Know

Critics Consensus

Its titillating title promises ribald laughs, but the lazily written, indifferently acted, and only sporadically funny A Good Old Fashioned Orgy fails to consummate.

Marc Savlov Austin Chronicle Bob & Carol & Ted & Alice meets a considerably tamed Van Wilder for a mediocre romp in the Hamptons. Rated: 2/5 Sep 2, 2011 Full Review Calvin Wilson St. Louis Post-Dispatch Sitting through "A Good Old Fashioned Orgy" is like being monopolized by the most irritating person at a really boring party. Rated: 1/4 Sep 2, 2011 Full Review Kyle Smith New York Post Chlamydia, gonorrhea and Jason Sudeikis are three reasons to stay well clear of "A Good Old Fashioned Orgy," but they're not the only ones. Rated: 0.5/4 Sep 2, 2011 Full Review Sean Burns Philadelphia Weekly It's like a group hug, only stickier. May 3, 2015 Full Review Michael Dequina TheMovieReport.com A consistently funny comedy that goes beyond the mere prospect of the title event. Rated: 3/4 Apr 6, 2012 Full Review Eric Melin Scene-Stealers.com There are no big statements made, no wider generational revelations that we haven't seen in countless other rude comedies, but the cast members' chemistry and its refusal to go straight-up formulaic make it an interesting diversion. Jonathan J I’ve seen some of the negative reviews, and while they raise valid points, I think they’re a bit too critical. This film isn’t trying to be an Oscar contender—it’s a fun, lighthearted comedy, and on that level, it succeeds. I gave it 5 stars because I was genuinely entertained and found myself laughing out loud more times than I expected. The movie never felt dull or dragged on, and the cast had a believable sense of camaraderie and friendship that really pulled me in. It’s witty, enjoyable, and easy to watch—perfect for when you just want to sit back and have a good time. Honestly, I haven’t had this much fun watching a film in quite a while. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/20/23 Full Review Audience Member This is a really low budget, poorly done comedy. Jason Sudekis is himself in this one, which makes it watchable because he is funny and has some good presence. When Don Johnson, his Dad, decides to sell Jason's party house in the Hamptons, Sudekis and his loser friends come up with a scheme to save the property by scaring away buyers. Lake Bell, Will Forte, and a young Nick Kroll have small roles. As a former Suffolk resident and New Yorker enjoyed the fact that this was really filmed in New York. The movie made me smile in parts. It struggles to be a little bit Caddyshack, and a little bit Stripes, but not as good as either. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 01/13/23 Full Review gustavo t Fun, sexy scenes, cool friends. Worth it. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member Loved this movie! So many laughs. Writing is witty and hilarious and the performances were great. Highly recommend!
