Mild-mannered sheep farmer Albert Stark (Seth MacFarlane) feels certain that the Western frontier is trying to kill him, then he loses his girlfriend, Louise (Amanda Seyfried), to the town's most successful businessman. However, a beautiful, pistol-packing woman named Anna (Charlize Theron) rides into town and helps Albert find his inner courage. Then Stark must put his newfound bravery to the test when Anna's outlaw husband arrives with plans to plant him in an unmarked grave.

Say what you want about Seth MacFarlane, that man can write a "guy pooping into a hat" joke that'll really make you think. But unfortunately, too much of A Million Ways To Die In The West is oddly serious and laugh-free.

I am 55 years old, and have seen alot of movies. As far as can see, AMWTDITW, is a very entertaining movie. 2 points i will make: 1, Seth Macfarlane seems to be disliked, so the movie's up against it. 2. So it's 2.16 hours. Yes longer than the average movie, but because it was funny and engaging, it was not a problem for me. I don't hear any critisism of The Lord of the Rings Trilogy. Those 3 movies were 3+ hours each. I remember going to see one, back in the day, and my *ss was numb by the end of it, and my mind.....but critically acclaimed of course, and loved on rotten tomatoes. It just smacks of what your 'supposed to' say you like rather than what you like.....not to get too deep about it...but (I will), anyone up for watching 1984!

I grew up with a father who loves westerns but I hated the tropes of movies in the 40s to 70s, especially the portrayal of Indians. I like that parody of those awful films that are turned on their heads with humor and homage. Overall, the plot isn’t greatly tracked and a lot of the dry humor doesn’t land but it’s not awful and definitely earned some chuckles.

Such a fun joy ride through a parody of the Wild West: great writing, original song and soundtrack very fitting to the spirit of the movie; very creative film work. I laughed and enjoyed the all star cast and each cameo of precious greats. It’s on my “watch again” list, especially when needing a good lift. Thank you Seth MacFarlane.

First, the cinematography is amazing. All Westerns should look this good. It's worth seeing for that alone. But...the cinematography is the best thing about the movie. There is some excellent acting--Liam Neesan is mesmerizing here as a comic(ish) villian--and some of the jokes land, and there are more fun cameos than you can shake a stick at, including one that made me laugh out loud. But in general, this movie makes me think that Seth McFarlane is so used to making cartoons that he didn't put any more effort than that into this. This movie feels like it needed a lot more effort--much more fine-tuning--to make it good. It's worth seeing, but don't expect great things. But wow, enjoy that cinematography!

Synopsis
