Ida K @DogScreamer Jan 3 Big shot returning to small town? Check Hatred between the leads turns to romance? Check Crisis requiring a Christmas Miracle? Check I am baffled by a few details. Are there no moderately good looking actors who can actually play Racquet sports? Like even a little? This was nearly as bad as watching Russell Crowe try to skate in Mystery Alaska. Also- the lead is 45 and his parents are 55. That’s a bit of a puzzler. There is more sexual chemistry between the club coach and the sister than the tennis pro but maybe that’s just me. But this movie is A+ rage bait for anyone who actually plays pickleball. There may be some shouting-at-the-screen induced strokes. What would have truly made this film accurate is if the overly confident ex tennis star got his ass handed to him by a 70 yr old power duo. We’ve all been there See more David P @TombstoneAZGuns Jan 2 This is the absolute worst movie representing a sport at a supposed high level that I have ever seen in my life. These actors (players) were supposed to be the best of the best, some were supposed to be former pro tennis players and they had no skill in using a paddle at all. They looked uncoordinated and just down right goofy! They didn't switch sides, they left balls hanging and the kitchen play was a mix of not understanding the rules and having zero skill with zero ability to look remotely athletic at all. This movie made pickleball look bad! Anyone considering getting into pickleball will change their mind after watching this! I was actually embarrassed for the actors that were playing these roles. I am a 3.0 to 3.5 player respectively and I could have beaten every team out there by myself and it's not a stretch to say this! I am pissed because this movie could have been a good movie but the producer, casting director, director and even the key grip all dropped the ball on this! See more Rod L. @rodlandersal Jan 2 Perhaps the worst fail of anything pickleball related I have seen. Not only was this movie an insult to pickleball, but tennis as well! The writers clearly knew practically nothing about pickleball and spent little to no time conducting research. The acting was fine given that this is basically a Hallmark movie, but the sheer lack of athleticism was astonishing. Did they not have anyone advising on pickleball? If you hate pickleball and think it is ridiculous you might actually like this. But seriously, don’t waste your time. See more Bryan B @bbartunek Dec 31 It's difficult to express the level of fail in this movie as it relates to pickleball. I am anticipating there will be a flood of similar reviews, as anyone who has spent 30+ minutes around the sport will quickly get distracted by the ridiculousness displayed. They could have gotten anyone affiliated with pickleball to advise them for one hour and save them 90% of the embarrassment of this film. Somehow, they created a NON-PARODY pickleball movie where the "pros" were literally worse than the rec players you would find at your local park. Your 85 yr old grandma who has played for a month would destroy the characters in this movie and win their "pro tournament". You may think this is overly critical, and any sports movie might be lacking in the characters' physical skills and abilities. Yes. But this film goes to an entirely new low. It's hilariously and egregiously bad. Instead of a positive light, the movie feeds into mockery, as the players are inept with no athletic ability. See more Aedan A @aacheson Dec 26 This is an absolute disgrace to the sport of pickleball. As terrible as the gameplay is, what really kills this movie is the fact that they have a ChatGPT level education on what pickleball is. They try to include some pickleball lingo with an "Erne" but pronounce it "earn" and the shot that was hit wasn’t even an Erne. The players have zero clue how to hit the ball and tap at it as if it is diseased. ALL these cheap directors had to do was find a coach from literally any club nearby and have them teach the actors the basics of how to hit a ball. Pay them $25 an hour to coach and consult on the pickleball scenes. A small price to pay to make the movie immeasurably better. I liked the story, it was cute, dumb, and cheesy like this kind of movie is supposed to be. But the lack of any care for pickleball is appalling. Obviously I am biased, but if you are going to include the name of a sport in your movie title, please make an effort to accurately represent that sport to your viewers.
