Carla Hay Culture Mix A very unnecessary remake of the 2022 thriller of the same name. In this story about a serial killer whose targets include teenage bullies, the 2024 sloppily edited version of the movie has ridiculous plot twists with exaggerated acting. Aug 12, 2024 Full Review Casey Chong Casey's Movie Mania Sam Quah's own remake is a riveting, though sometimes overwrought thriller. Rated: 3.5/5 Aug 6, 2024 Full Review Ellen E Jones Observer (UK) There are tonally jarring comic caricatures... These, plus an abundance of suspenseful set pieces and proper plot twists, keep us adequately entertained. Unless, of course, you’ve already seen the 2022 original. Robert O Slow developing story. But decent ending. Don’t need to see it in the movie theater. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 08/02/24 Full Review Dean L What a complete waste of time! The only reason I gave it two stars instead of one was the unexpected twist in the mid-credits scene. I'll give them credit for that. But as for the rest of the show... let's just say, if I had seen this in theaters, I would have marched straight to the ticket counter demanding a refund! I picture a group of writers brainstorming, each throwing out plot twists left and right in a desperate attempt to earn some free boba tea, and then deciding to include every single idea in the movie. Not only did this make the show drag on unnecessarily, but it came across as painfully forced. After all the so-called "surprises"... the real shock was how this show managed to snag the number 3 spot on Netflix! Just think of all the people deceived into wasting two hours of their lives! Rated 2 out of 5 stars 11/09/24 Full Review j F Hard to follow and extreme violent scenes of girls being bullied. The movie had little redeeming value. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 11/08/24 Full Review Audience Member An engaging movie for me. I haven't even heard of the 2022 version so it was entirely new to me. I found the development of the plot unpredictable and suspenseful. It's an affective way for Sam Quah to have a social dialogue with social about the serious and severely damaging issue school bullying has on victims, their families and the bullies themselves. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 10/09/24 Full Review Pavel G A Place Called Silence is a very strange movie. Dramatic, horror, thriller, comedy, sometimes predictable, at others a real surprise, with actors that defy western standards, to sound goofy and convincing at the same time, with interesting and out-of-cliches faces and attitudes. The pace is reasonably fast, with good changes in it. While watching it, I did not realize that I was becoming enthusiast of its energy and freshness. Even the obvious mistakes sounded perfect. I haven't watched the original from Taiwan yet, but despite the critic tend to rate it higher, I am terribly satisfied with the chinese version of it.
