A highly moral movie exploring what was, not so long ago, known as 'the human condition' - in the tradition of Steinbeck. Its not sensational, which dates it, relying instead on profound, 3000 year old Judeo-Christian content. This and the somber subject requires considerable nuance from the actors, especially from Maureen Mueller and Ron Pearlman as the Amish couple. If you enjoy watching actors reaching for and achieving great depth of character (as with British 'thespians') perhaps your will enjoy this film. Highly recommended for educated, religious, and socially engaged movie viewers more interested in humanity than fantasy. And for families - to share and discuss with their children the good and the bad of this world.

Finally, a flub in technology. FlixterÂ (C) says this title isn't available but alas, I have streamed it. A refreshing discovery: An obscure, unknown(to me) 1988 TV movie with Ken Olin: Automatic 3-star rating. Also featuring Jill Eikenberry, Ron Perlman, Nick Pryor, and Bradley Pitt.

Synopsis

Amish couple Jacob (Ron Perlman) and Sarah Shuler (Maureen Mueller) are outcasts in their North Carolina community. When a rowdy group of teenagers throws rocks at them, they become the victims of an even greater crime; one of the stones accidentally hits their infant daughter, killing her instantly. Now county prosecutor Jim Sandler (Ken Olin) wants to go after those responsible. This becomes difficult when he learns that the Schulers don't want to press charges.
