The family drama's subtlety and care don't mesh well with the crime drama, which feels underbaked. The lack of energy in the even-handed direction doesn't help, either. The family drama does work... thanks to the strong performances of the cast.

Tracking the trials and tribulations of a family through the expectations, and inevitable disappointment, placed on the two sons. Arguably, one is viewed as showing more promise than the other, and he has the faith and trust of his father as a result. The story is more focused on the experiences of the younger, less in-favour, son. Whilst interesting, I struggled to see or feel any kind of emotional connection between characters. Whether related to cultural norms or not, is not the issue, As directed, it leaves the movie feeling only skin-deep as opposed to meaningful and heartfelt

Deeply emotional, often times hard bear but worth bearing. I left the film having much to chew on, which I very much appreciated. My only complaint was that it was a touch too long. Definitely a "watch it once" type of movie for me.
