Anna Smith Deadline Hollywood Daily A Sun is a bold, involving tale of crime, punishment, tragedy and healing -- all within a seemingly ordinary family of four in Taiwan. Mar 11, 2021 Full Review Deborah Young Hollywood Reporter An engrossing stunner. Oct 5, 2020 Full Review Peter Debruge Variety As wrenching and resonant a cinematic experience as can be found in any country this year... Nov 25, 2019 Full Review Dan Bayer Next Best Picture The family drama's subtlety and care don't mesh well with the crime drama, which feels underbaked. The lack of energy in the even-handed direction doesn't help, either. The family drama does work... thanks to the strong performances of the cast. Rated: 7/10 May 13, 2022 Full Review Fernanda Solórzano Letras Libres A brilliantly colored film with high contrasts... but the filming is not strictly ornamental. [Full review in Spanish] Aug 27, 2021 Full Review Carolyn Hinds But Why Tho? A Geek Community A Sun is beautifully shot and crafted, but it's the performances especially those by Wu and Chen, that keep it grounded. Rated: 8/10 Jul 29, 2021 Full Review Read all reviews

Dave C Tracking the trials and tribulations of a family through the expectations, and inevitable disappointment, placed on the two sons. Arguably, one is viewed as showing more promise than the other, and he has the faith and trust of his father as a result. The story is more focused on the experiences of the younger, less in-favour, son. Whilst interesting, I struggled to see or feel any kind of emotional connection between characters. Whether related to cultural norms or not, is not the issue, As directed, it leaves the movie feeling only skin-deep as opposed to meaningful and heartfelt Rated 3 out of 5 stars 04/30/24 Full Review Anh Khoa N đáng xem nhiều ý nghĩa về xã hội hiện nay Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/11/24 Full Review Julia R At first seemed a bit violent but the unfolding of the story and the unspoken emotions that play out are beautiful. To me, this story highlights the effect that one person can have on an entire family. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 11/23/23 Full Review A L Very slow burn and drip feed of information, what initially seems like a slice of life story turned into a dark and exhilarating thriller. The ending leaves you question where you'd draw your line of morality. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 10/09/23 Full Review Mitch K Deeply emotional, often times hard bear but worth bearing. I left the film having much to chew on, which I very much appreciated. My only complaint was that it was a touch too long. Definitely a "watch it once" type of movie for me. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 07/27/23 Full Review Veer B A clean cut, visual weed! Not just the movie, this piece has developed confidence in me about the potential of the maker of this movie. Although this is my first of his work, the essence is so stark that I won't be surprised to be enthralled again. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 04/19/23 Full Review Read all reviews
