Naila Scargill Exquisite Terror This low-budget indie is a star turn, with a clever, funny script that shows life from the point of view of the zombie. Ryan O One of the best B movies I've ever seen!! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/27/24 Full Review kyle c Also known as "Aaah! Zombies!!" for some reason, Wasting Away is a low-budget zombie comedy horror film that misses about as often as it hits. It's got some clever ideas, showing us a zombie apocalypse from the zombies' point of view, and some of the humor works pretty well. The directing and cinematography are impressive in the first 30 minutes or so, with clever use of color and dry humor. The gimmick is introduced subtly and effectively, leaning heavily into the parody gags. There are also some solid special effects near the end, especially the talking severed head (which I was sure was going to be someone's head through a hole in the table, but it's actually really well done). Unfortunately, the last two thirds of the movie get pretty stale. The entire film only has like 5 jokes that work (which it reuses over and over) and dozens of others that don't (which it also reuses over and over). The acting varies from passable to almost unwatchable, especially in the more "serious" moments. And bafflingly, it keeps coming back to awkward humor leaning heavily on offensive racial stereotypes, which feels completely out of place and is, unsurprisingly, not funny at all. This film is too silly and not silly enough at the same time. It doesn't quite know what it wants to be, which is a shame because it has a lot of unique ideas that just aren't executed that well. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member Watched this a few years back and as cheesy as it is, its an interesting take on zombie movies. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/11/23 Full Review Audience Member Zombie movie from the Zombie point of view Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/14/23 Full Review Audience Member I love this movie for its weird and awkward feel. One of the best low-budget Zombie movies out there, Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/14/23 Full Review Audience Member This movie was like deep fried Twinkies: so very very bad, yet so very delicious. From the brain tacos to the zombie hookups to the OBVIOUSLY NOT a real job interview (y'dumb ho, you knew that), there was nothing that didn't make me smile. If you can look past or even, dare I say, accept and appreciate the mediocre writing, mediocre acting, and downright campy effects, you might just glimpse the genius of this film. It's definitely the most unique concept to emerge from the done-to-death zombie movie subgenre. The visual effects used to distinguish the zombies' POV from the humans' are honestly brilliant. And did I mention brain tacos? Brain tacos. That's at least a whole star all by itself. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/22/23 Full Review Read all reviews
