Fat L I wanted to like this movie. I really did. The acting was great, the love was strong but the storyline was eh. I'm not Native and even I know you can boil pine needles for tea, gather the moss she stuffed in the house and boil it. Dig up tree roots and boil them and there were fish and you can build a trap out of sticks where fish go in but can't get out. And out of no where she suddenly finds a rabbit but not until after her husband's dead and she lost the baby? It's just not a believable story. It had a lot of possibility. I would have been more impressed with her being amazing and finding a way for them to survive with roots, berries and rabbits.anf maybe even some of the birds. It could have been a great love story instead of an eh storyline. They had so much time to gather plants before winter and store them. Instead it was a not so great story about greed and a shallow human connection. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 08/09/24 Full Review Claire B Being from that area ( the upper peninsula of Michigan) and having some knowledge of the native peoples of that area, i was very interested in this account, and i have always wanted to visit Isle Royale. I thought it was very moving and thoughtful, and i can't believe that people would say it's rubbish. It shows that many people can't appreciate an honest and stark account of what took place in those times, with the disregard for people's lives in the quest for "getting rich" as the actor portrayed in the movie reveals is his reason for his existence there in the first place. Native peoples don't believe in taking minerals from the earth, especially mining endeavors. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 08/06/24 Full Review Imran S This low-budget production exemplifies a questionable allocation of tax funds for private filmmaking. Both the actors and the director delivered subpar performances. The costume choices are lackluster, featuring new outfits seemingly plucked from everyday wardrobes. A professional videographer using an iPhone could likely achieve better results. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 10/17/23 Full Review G. W Utter rubbish. Nothing seems believable. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 07/28/23 Full Review Audience Member Excellent movie! A portrait of a beautiful and strong Ojibwa woman who marries a rather flaky white guy (a French trapper), pays for his arrogance, still manages to love him when they find themselves abandoned by a bunch of greedy resource stealers (copper, land, etc; and she manages to make it through leaning on her indigenous knowledge passed down by her grandmother… well there's lots more so check it out. Beautiful film and off the beaten track. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/24/23 Full Review Read all reviews
