      What to Know

      Critics Consensus

Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter has visual style to spare, but its overly serious tone doesn't jibe with its decidedly silly central premise, leaving filmgoers with an unfulfilling blend of clashing ingredients.

Andrew P Absolutely Perfect in every way. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/30/24 Full Review Mikko S Take it for what it is, fiction. It's a fun watch. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 04/14/24 Full Review Lilith M For a film with such a peculiar concept, it proved to be rather brilliant; going into this film, I didn't expect very much from it but I was quickly forced to put aside all of my expectations from the moment I put it on. Whilst I know very little about the history that this film is sourced from, 'Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter' is wonderfully eccentric and strangely engaging. It is rare to find a film so silly and yet so clever, and is even rarer to find one with such an impressive spectacle of a finale. It is gripping, it is enticing, and it is so shockingly good - I would recommend this film to anyone and everyone in a heartbeat, it's safe to say that I very much enjoyed this film and, regardless to it's ridiculousness, would watch it again. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/14/24 Full Review Alain M it is entertaining, taking a big poetic freedom with history, but that is the fun part in it, don't take it seriously, just sit back and enjoy the ride and it is a thrill ride Rated 4 out of 5 stars 12/01/23 Full Review Erika P I think it's good if you like watching and making fun of bad movies. But the 2 act gets to serious when it's a movie about Abraham Lincoln as a vampire slayer. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 10/31/23 Full Review Petros T For a film with such a title and such a premise, I wouldn't have said no to some extra silliness, plus the visuals are a little rough and, well, aged, but overall this is a lot of fun. Featuring a good cast, it has a lot of exciting action and a captivating script, and manages to combine them with some great humour, a few very potent scares and its fair share of emotion, epicness and over-the-top campness. What is more, the serious aspects of the story somehow do not get lost in the mixture. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 09/07/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating

Bruce Diones New Yorker The violence quickly becomes numbing, and Benjamin Walker plays Lincoln without the sense of irony needed to keep the historical and supernatural sides of the story consistently entertaining. Jul 2, 2012 Full Review Mark Kermode Observer (UK) Bekmambetov's disposable brouhaha at least achieves the minor victory of living neither up to hopes nor down to fears. Jun 24, 2012 Full Review Lisa Schwarzbaum Entertainment Weekly The movie plays safe by cutting every theme down the middle - a swing that's effective when splitting wood or vampire skulls, but dull when applied to filmmaking. Rated: C+ Jun 24, 2012 Full Review Brian Eggert Deep Focus Review Instead of laughing at this movie, we could have been laughing with it and enjoying the experience rather than despising it. But Bekmambetov forgoes the obvious absurdity of the subject matter. Rated: 1/4 Oct 4, 2022 Full Review Don Shanahan Every Movie Has a Lesson Even though "Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter" butchers and condenses its pulpy and popular source novel, the movie is simply fun escapist entertainment and pops off of the screen like a 3D movie should. Rated: 3/5 Jun 26, 2022 Full Review Owen Nicholls NME (New Musical Express) Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, a film in which Abraham Lincoln hunts vampires, spends far too long believing it is something other than it clearly is.
