      What to Know

      Critics Consensus

Cobbling together an unfinished satire on the healthcare system and contorting it into a dopey romance, Accidental Love is a cynical repurposing of unrealized potential.

Dean H Would rate 0 if I could. Might be the worst.movie I've ever seen. Just painfully dumb the whole way through. Couldn't wait for it to be over Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 02/17/24 Full Review Megan S The premise of this movie was ridiculous to begin with. It completely lives up to the expectation. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 01/25/24 Full Review kevin c Bit of a broad political comedy which sees Jessica Biel playing a waitress who accidentally gets shot in the head with a nail gun. Unable to have it removed without insurance or a large bill, she takes her plea to Washington where senator with good intentions tries to help her out. Jake Gyllenhaal plays the senator. Occasionally funny, mostly from costar James Marsden. But overall lacklustre. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member I know I know . This was pretty terrible but a decent political commentary and it had jakey g cmon . 2.8 Rated 3 out of 5 stars 03/01/22 Full Review Audience Member What? This is a David O' Russell film? I must be losing my mind. He is better then this. What was he doing directing this, what was Jake Gyllenhaal and Cathriene Keener doing in this? The movie was bad enough I forgot Keener was in it. I love her in Get Out and Seinfeld! :) Luckily Jake Gyllenhaal would do better with Southpaw and Everest in 2015 and O' Russell would come out with Joy. Everyone had poor acting here too. I know people like Gyllenhaal and Keener do better then this. The film's story can be interesting, and the comedy is only a bit funny at times. 2 and a half out of 5. Richard Roeper Chicago Sun-Times It's an unmitigated disaster, not even worth a spin as a curiosity piece. Rated: 1/4 Aug 14, 2015 Full Review Chris Blohm Little White Lies David O Russell has moved on, as should we all. Rated: 1/5 Jun 23, 2015 Full Review Mark Kermode Observer (UK) Unsurprisingly, it's a mess. Rated: 2/5 Jun 21, 2015 Full Review Brian Eggert Deep Focus Review Whatever group of filmmakers took over after Russell left the project, they didn't find a consistent mark at which to set their comedy dial, though most of the time, it's set to eleven, blaring in our faces. Rated: 2/4 Jun 21, 2022 Full Review J B Queree One Room With A View Saved only by the smattering of funny lines and a generally affable cast, perhaps it's no coincidence that this film was an accident waiting to happen. Rated: 2/5 May 8, 2019 Full Review Matthew Bond The Mail on Sunday (UK) It's crude and contrived but Biel has a wide-eyed, Judy Garland-like appeal and she enjoys terrific screen chemistry with an on-form Jake Gyllenhaal.
