byron p 12/19/2021 It's a movie that was still filming in December 1941 before the Pearl Harbor attack. It is a US/Japanese espionage plot to sabotage a U.S. asset. I thought the movie was entertaining and enjoyed it from beginning until the end. I thought it was a decent plot that kept my interest and wondering what was going to happen next. See more 05/03/2017 It is with noble intent to reassemble actors from a successful film like The Maltese Falcon, but in this case despite Bogart, Greenstreet, and Astor's usually fine performances the story itself is so convoluted it leaves the audience in "the wilderness of mirrors" trying to figure out just WTF is going on? Not to mention there is no chemistry between Bogart and Astor. She is not the most feminine of actresses. And trying to figure out who is who brings a bit of credence to the adage "some people all look the same". By the time it becomes clearer the entire experience is anti-climatic. What happened at the end, Mary forgot about her dead father? And of course Sidney Greenstreet is wonderful. See more 06/18/2016 Not a great film, but I enjoyed it. The film stars 3 cast members from "The Maltese Falcon" and is the same director, John Huston. I liked Bogart in this, and also enjoyed Sydney Greenstreet and Mary Astor.
