Robert Abele Los Angeles Times Directed by Isaac Florentine and performed by Antonio Banderas with an air of itch-scratching purpose that syncs well enough with its fast, cheap and stupid thrills. Oct 26, 2017 Full Review Frank Scheck The Hollywood Reporter Banderas proves more than capable of playing the sort of strong, silent type who resorts to vigilante justice. Oct 26, 2017 Full Review Dennis Harvey Variety Revenge for the death of family members is a frequent boilerplate hook for mid-budget action movies, and that formula could hardly get a more perfunctory recycling than in "Acts of Vengeance." Oct 26, 2017 Full Review Jeremy Aspinall Radio Times It's a cameoing Robert Forster as Frank's embittered father-in-law who provides the acting class. Rated: 3/5 Nov 19, 2024 Full Review Dominic Griffin Spectrum Culture Maybe if one of the movie's biggest lines extols the virtues of shutting (...) up, it might be a novel idea to pass that aphorism along to the writer. Rated: 2.75/5 Jul 17, 2019 Full Review Ed Travis Cinapse I tend to value earnestness, and enjoyed watching one of my favorite action filmmakers continue on with his work even after a personal tragedy and choose to address and wrestle with that loss in the film he's sharing with us. (ENGLISH) Acts of Vengeance is one of those movies you can watch without much effort... and forget just as quickly. Antonio Banderas tries to bring some weight to his character, but not even his usual charm can save a script that feels like it was written on autopilot. The idea of a silent, stoic revenge could have been interesting if the direction had shown a bit more personality or energy. The action scenes are serviceable at best, but they never really become exciting, and the moments that should hit hard just feel routine. Throwing in Marcus Aurelius as a philosophical excuse sounds good on paper, but in practice it feels more like a gimmick than something that adds real depth. And Paz Vega... honestly, her character has absolutely no purpose in the story. She's there because someone thought the movie needed a female character, and that's about it. In short, this is a low-budget revenge thriller that might entertain you if you keep your expectations very low, but it definitely leaves you thinking Banderas deserved something way better. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 05/09/25 Full Review Audience Member What I found stupid about the film, was when somebody is helping you then you just don't speak to them, would that very happen I say No, unless you were mute. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/17/25 Full Review Yep Y What most good people wish they could do in today's society of blamers and lack of character. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 04/28/24 Full Review Kevin R Should be called Silent Vengeance. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 12/02/23 Full Review malani w formulaic, gratuitous violence, cheesy dialogue Rated 2 out of 5 stars 04/28/24 Full Review Gordon G Bloody and brutal but AB never suffers a lost tooth or broken nose. So silly, you just want him to put on his hat with the feather and wield his little sword. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 08/16/23 Full Review Read all reviews
