      What to Know

      Critics Consensus

Such an unusual tale might have made for a compelling drama, but Adam Resurrected suffers from narrative confusion and an emotional detachment at its core.

Audience Member If you're looking for a very strange and perverse holocaust movie regarding carnies and a mental asylum then this is the movie for you. Definitely a strange film but not as strange as one may think as it still remains mostly coherent on the first viewing which allows it to garner enough interest to make one want to see how it ends. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/07/23 Full Review Audience Member The most powerful movie I've seen in years. You have to hang in there past the opening when you don't know what to expect. Then the story and acting will grab you and not let you go. Jeff Goldblum is fantastic. The drama is haunting as are the wrenching views of the Holocaust. It deserves a far higher rating than it got here. Phooey on shallow critics. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 01/19/23 Full Review Audience Member Accent work was all over the place which took me out of what could have been a very solid movie. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/22/23 Full Review Audience Member It's hard to tell precisely what this film wants to say and frankly precisely what it is about. An interesting idea, but lacking the execution it needed to make it great. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 01/21/23 Full Review Audience Member Far from my favourite Schrader works, but still has a curio about it. Goldblum is fantastic. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/26/23 Full Review Audience Member I witnessed the triumph of this film from the beginning to end but, it was not an easy road for me to get at that state of mind. It starts slowly like an orchestra and wraps up in a crescendo of rebirth. I was uncomfortable at times with some scenes yet I felt they were completely relevant to the story line. This film's premise and subject matter is very torrid and twisted yet poetically bouts between the absurd and metaphorical. Mark Holcomb Time Out Rated: 2/5 Nov 17, 2011 Full Review Gary Goldstein Los Angeles Times In a less competitive year, Jeff Goldblum would have had a shot at an Oscar nod. Rated: 3.5/5 Dec 19, 2008 Full Review Alissa Wilkinson Christianity Today Could have been a tour de force for director Paul Schrader and his cast, and the glimpses of greatness make the reality all the more disappointing. Rated: 1.5/4 Dec 16, 2008 Full Review Sean Axmaker Seanax.com Director Paul Schrader is too removed from the powerful emotions roiling through the film, but it may be the only way to handle the horrors he's forced to confront. Sep 21, 2009 Full Review Marty Mapes Movie Habit The ending throws away the complexity that makes the rest of the movie so interesting Rated: 2.5/4 Apr 21, 2009 Full Review Avi Offer NYC Movie Guru A well-acted, sporadically intriguing drama that has a few poignant moments...but its convoluted, unfocused plot fails to pack an emotional wallop as a whole.
