I mean, super weird absurdist. I'm not that familiar with Sandler's full specials, just bits here and there, so maybe I could have been better prepared. The song at the end, though, was pretty good and heartfelt. While some of the schtick was very unfunny, I will concede it is pretty one-of-a-kind, original, and bizarre. The humor is certainly unique, with parts that are super funny simply because they are so very very strange. See more @Viol8r Jul 27 Love You is another hilarious special by the great Adam Sandler. It’s silly, it has some great drawn-out bits, and much like Sandler’s previous standup special, it does something that other comedians aren’t. Combining music, oddball bits and a personal touch. This special has a bit of an intimate feel. A lower budget, but aesthetically pleasing with a bit of a cinematic intro/outro. While not as memorable nor comedically hard hitting as what I would consider Sandler’s standup magnum opus: 100% Fresh, it is still a very solid piece of work. Along with his pianist Dan Bulla, they manage to create some catchy songs that could easily be classic hits had they swapped out the goofy lyrics. I will definitely be giving this one another watch or a listen while on a road trip. I didn’t grasp onto as many bits and tracks as I would have liked, but if I could still manage to laugh hysterically, while also battling a headache, maybe there is something more to it. Without sounding psychotic, this special gives you the sense that you are friends with Adam Sandler. Like you are buddies goofing around and like you are witnessing the behind the scenes of Sandler. Away from Grown Ups and Happy Gilmore, you see the raunchy goofball that he really is. God bless you Sandman! But that “lost” song? It hit me right in the feels—a tearjerking love letter to comedy and the weirdos who make us laugh. This isn’t just nostalgia—it’s craft.
