Taking smart home to the next level, once the unit and all its sensors and cameras are installed in their home, AIA seems able to do it all. Critics Consensus

Repeating the beats of better techno-horrors, AfrAId short circuits due to the clichéd software of its script and the uninspired hardware of its craft.

Crucially, Weitz grasps that the most unsettling thing about AIA’s real-world equivalents isn’t their alien novelty but the way they mirror human nature, revealing qualities in their designers and users that were present all along. Go to Full Review

Afraid is better than expected...and it largely succeeds as a fun genre exercise. If only its aspiration to “say something” didn’t keep it from being pure dumb fun. Go to Full Review

Tries to become an intelligent AI horror but loses its way during the second half of the film. A great performance by John Cho does what it can to save the film. Go to Full Review

The perils and pitfalls of artificial intelligence are laid bare in this speculative, thought-provoking science fiction that promises much but doesn't quite deliver on every front. Go to Full Review

The movie seemed rushed and the plot was all too familar. I believe it had potential but missed the mark despite having a great cast of actors and actresses. See more Rich C 09/23/2024 The final scene gives this movie an extra star because its representative of how we all feel about AI. Were getting on board even though we know, it will likely be a dangerous trip into the unknown. The movie itself was entertaining, haunting and surprisingly relatable. See more Tarrelle 09/17/2024 This movie AFRAID was a definite like ! I enjoyed the exploring the idea of A.I in our potential future and the effect it may have . Actors did a great job convincing the audience & myself that this is beyond fantasy ! See more Kera W 09/16/2024 Blumhouse produces another headscratcher horror film, but to my surprise, the film had all the elements of being very effective going from a good movie to an actual scary movie. John Cho is becoming a staple for technological horror genre and we are here for his emotional journey. See more Read all reviews
