Liz Braun Original Cin A compelling coming-of-age story for just about everyone involved, After All shows that while being together as a family can be therapeutic, the ties that bind sometimes work like a tourniquet. Rated: B Nov 11, 2025 Full Review Carla Hay Culture Mix After All is a richly layered emotional drama about three generations of women dealing with trauma and other issues in their family. The movie has impressive performances and a creative use of flashbacks. Nov 8, 2025 Full Review Q.V. Hough Vague Visages “Like many family films, ‘After All’ succeeds with its messaging and pushes too hard with moments of poignancy.” Oct 31, 2025 Full Review Mark Dujsik Mark Reviews Movies The movie is finely performed melodrama with flashes of the character-based drama it might have been instead. Rated: 2/4 Oct 17, 2025 Full Review Avi Offer NYC Movie Guru A heartfelt, but contrived and schmaltzy drama. It often feels like a Lifetime Movie of the Week. Oct 16, 2025 Full Review Lynn Venhaus AWFJ.org At first, interactions seem to be headed for one-note histrionics, but Miller and Christensen plumb emotional depths to portray a plausible complicated relationship. Heather G "After All" is a beautifully written, shot, and acted film of a type not often seen these days. The characters feel fully lived-in, flawed, and complex, the writing is beautifully subtle and never panders to or "spoon-feeds" the audience, and the locations, lighting, cinematography, and direction give the film a real sense of place, as though we were right there with them. In a sea of tired sequels and half-baked blockbusters, you won’t want to miss this thoughtful, heart-tugging jewel of a movie. All ages admitted!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 11/07/25 Full Review Vanessa Y “After All” sits with you for a while, maybe hours or days later. It’s a beautifully written and gorgeously shot story about three generations of ladies haunted by the spectre of domestic violence, mental illness, and substance abuse. Erika Christensen (Ellen Sharpe), Penelope Ann Miller (Verna Sharpe), and Kiara Muhammad (Haley Sharpe) are all forces to be reckoned with in their own right, showcasing a stubbornly strong streak that is only alive in the women of this family. The film being based on a personal story plus the astounding performances give you something heartfelt and real to hold on to, long after the film is over. It doesn’t try to be more than what it is: a sweet and sorrowful tale of three disparate souls finding their way back to each other. A reminder that tragedy can bring us home and make us whole again. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 11/05/25 Full Review Dawn B An emotional look at the lives of three generations of women, "After All" takes audiences on a journey of healing. Miller, Christensen and Muhammad all give mesmerizing performances as a family working through their shared and personal traumas, a universally relatable notion at its core. Whether wrestling with past, present or future, each woman embraces their inevitable growth in this beautifully shot and directed film. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 11/05/25 Full Review Matty D Saw this in NYC a few weeks ago. The film is a beautiful portrayal of how family can come together in the face of trauma, hurt and years of obstacles. The lead actors, all 3 of them, give unique and evocative performances. Erika Christensen shows incredible range being able to communicate so much through her face and eyes, Penelope Ann Miller is able to straddle drama and comedy with masterful nuance and there is also a breakout performance by Kiara Muhammad who I'm sure will be in many more movies, in the coming years. The cherry on top is Director Kerstin Karlhuber, whose filming lets the actors breathe and show their emotional layers. Visually there is incredible attention to detail which is most evident in the searing flashback sequences. All together, these parts make the film a must see, especially now, when Dramas are few and far between! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 10/29/25 Full Review Mish C This is the kind of film that stays with you. Lots of feelings and lots to think about. Fantastic performances and beautifully made. You get what you want out of a drama with this one. I highly recommend it. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 10/28/25 Full Review Read all reviews
