Gary Goldstein Los Angeles Times Charles' script at times lacks clarity and credibility, as well as sufficient back story about the showy Steve. Still, Flanery and Balfour keep us watching. Feb 22, 2018 Full Review Read all reviews

Audience Member ARGHHHH! Absolutely unbearable... but that's what ya got checking out FREE movies on ROKU! Only thing worth seeing/ amusing (for me) was that Sean Patrick Flanery looks like now, what Mickey Rourke may have looked like at 55 if he had never had his face beaten to a pulp or ever had plastic surgery. NO RELIVING BOONDOCK SAINTS, that's for suuure! As for this movie, just couldn't stomach it the whole way thru... & that's not taking the HORRIBLY BAD ACTING into account either! Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 02/17/23 Full Review Audience Member Agenda: Payback is the type of film that's perfect to watch with friends and alcohol; it's not a necessity, but it will certainly make it more enjoyable. Directed by Giorgio Serafini, the film follows the sleazy con-man Steve Walsh, who swindles others for financial gain, as he gets his comeuppance for all he has wronged when he is kidnapped and held prisoner for those he has wronged to torture him. Embracing the notion of torture porn, the film is not afraid, and in fact seems proud, to show grotesque and bloody imagery of the anti-hero being put dealt his payback. The film obviously prioritizes these torture scenes over other elements, such as a noticeable and egregious continuity error of having Steve held in a basement in a house on raised stilts- but the film seems to seek entertaining the audience through the torture scenes and character development, instead of being a realistic depiction of what actual kidnapping and hostage situations would be like. There's plenty of blood, so those who flinch at the mere thought of it would be advised to avoid this film, but it still has enough entertainment value to watch and enjoy it. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/26/23 Full Review Audience Member Agenda: Payback is a taut, solidly crafted thriller about a businessman caught up in a complex kidnapping plot. The film moves along at a brisk pace, roping the audience along until its satisfying conclusion. The brutal violence, unexpected twists, and intense performances are sure to please fans and casual viewers alike. As all good thrillers have in common, the riveting dialogue is the main source of action. Fans of films like Green Room and Reservoir Dogs will find much to enjoy in Agenda: Payback.
