Beandrea July New York Times The vivid patterns of body paint and intricate costumes of Candamo’s royals, warriors and hunters have to contend with a generic plot that turns its complex subject matter and distinct characters into a predictable naptime preamble. Nov 29, 2022 Full Review Cath Clarke Guardian A family animation from Peru that spins a magical tale in the Amazon with a cast of mythological creatures from rainforest legend - and importantly, it's told from the perspective of indigenous characters. Rated: 3/5 Aug 25, 2021 Full Review Josh Bell Crooked Marquee The vague eco-conscious anti-imperialist message gets lost in the confusing plot, and both the animation and the characters are plastic and stiff. Rated: C Nov 30, 2022 Full Review Chris Knight National Post I daresay the filmmakers poured their hearts into it. But good intentions can only take you so far. Rated: 1.5/5 Aug 12, 2022 Full Review Richard Crouse Richard Crouse You may get a sense of déjà vu while watching Ainbo: Spirit of the Amazon. It owes a big debt to other, better films, but the movie’s good-natured vibe makes it feel less like a knock-off. Rated: 2.5/5 Aug 11, 2022 Full Review Tom Cassidy Common Sense Media This is not the first animated adventure to tackle the destruction of the environment head-on. Ainbo joins the likes of Studio Ghibli's Pom Poko and Nausicaa of The Valley of the Wind in highlighting the urgent need to save the environment. Rated: 3/5 Aug 2, 2022 Full Review Read all reviews

The designs are good. The music is there. The voice acting is sub-par and, could use more takes. But honestly the writing is just bad. Its like a first draft. for starters way to much telling and not showing. Its super stale. Honestly its a shame this could have worked if they had reworked the script and got better voice actors. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 03/29/23 Full Review Brian C It's refreshing to see an animated film that represents the indigenous people of Peru. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/02/23 Full Review Audience Member Overall, as a family film, it's sad to see something that's highly familiar to other titles instead of delivering something new and exciting on its own.  This film is aimed at a much younger audience, making it slightly painful for the parents that see it.  The animation style is basic and has pleasant moments, but voice work and expressionless characters are questionable.  As a kid's film, the main evil villain was an unusual choice that could unsettle some younger viewers, making it highly confusing about who its audience truly is.  Loaded with many subplots, the film struggles to stay on target as it rolls in multiple directions, to the point the entire film feels messy and muddy. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 01/11/23 Full Review Luke M With a simple plot, the film was fairly predictable. Younger children could enjoy the plot, but will then be terrified by the film's villain. However, it should be given credit for its animation. Plus, the spirit guides are lovable characters the kids will enjoy. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 11/28/22 Full Review iAmYouAreWe The movie doesn‘t develop the characters well, also there‘s not really a comprehensible story - it already starts off more in a chaotic way. Still the images are nice, so it‘s at least nice to look at. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 08/30/22 Full Review Read all reviews
