"I haven't been this happy since my little brother was eaten by hogs."
Yes, this is a line that was in the movie.
I didn't think that my expectations could get any lower before I watched this movie. But, much to my surprise, I was wrong. From the get-go I knew exactly what was going to happen. Well...maybe not exactly. I never would've thought that there would be a scene where the lead character gets bitten by a rattle snake, and his life is saved when his 'victim' grabs a chicken, kills it, and forces him to stick his hand up it's tukas because, apparently, that sucks out the venom. I never heared that before, and I doubt it's correct, but I digress. The biggest problem this film has is it's trying to be something that it's not. And never becomes what it so desperatly wants to be. It tries to be comedic, romantic, and somewhat dramatic, but the 'comedy' is close to non-existant, the romance is cheesier far beyond cheesy, and the dramatic scenes are pretty much begging you to roll your eyes. The plot is simple, a guy named Roper Riley is broke, and is about to be kicked out of his apartment. He sees an ad in the newspaper about the wealthiest couple in the county, who appear to be happy, but underneath the surface, their marriage is falling apart. Riley comes up with a plan to kidnap the wife for ransom money. This leads to a few unbearibly annoying sequances involving her screaming at him, and yelling to the top of her lungs for three straight minutes at a time. But, do you think that they might actually fall for each other after a while? Hmm...I wonder. The movie gets even more ridiculous when her husband, and his secretary, hatch a plan to kill his wife in case she were ever to make it back home alive. There is also an almost needless subplot involving the wife's two bestest friends, who do what they can to dig up some dirt on her loser husband. The movie also tries to be family orientated, but consists of several adult elements. And the lessons this movie teaches....By the time the end credits role, the film has established that cheating on your spouse is ok. Kidnapping somebody isn't really a bad thing, and that it's perfectly alright to steal money from the community as long as none of them ever find out about it. The film also features cutesie narration from a ten year old girl, who not only states the obvious in almost every scene, but is telling the sort of adult story that is a ways beyond her years. The film is wrong headed, excruciatingly unfunny, and painfully obivous to anyone who has ever seen a supposid romantic comedy like this before.

Not too bad, considering it's not made on much of a budget. The two leads have a good rapport. It has charm but still is nothing outstanding. A bit predictable.
