James Lattimer Sight & Sound While Alice is obviously meant to be inscrutable, the film itself has trouble keeping up with all the myriad changes to her stories and moods, with the doggedly external perspective on her actions increasingly hindering empathy and engagement. isla s This is a rather long drawn out film, even though its only 1 hour and 45 minutes long. The plot felt slow to build and I thought that it was interesting seeing the strained relationship between the titular character and her adoptive mother but it did seem a bit too bland at times. In a way I respected Alice's typical teenage nature/personality, her wanting to do things her way, although she is a bit obnoxious but there again, its hardly anything brand new to film, to put it mildly. Its a bit of a sobering watch at times, I suppose but it didn't really pull me in as a viewer overall - its not really bad as such, its just...ok-ish. I thought it became a bit more interesting towards the end but it still didn't feel quite substantial enough to maintain my concentration. I wouldn't recommend it as such, no, although it is mildly thought provoking I suppose. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Read all reviews
