What to Know

Critics Consensus

Honoring its nightmarish predecessors while chestbursting at the seams with new frights of its own, Romulus injects some fresh acid blood into one of cinema's great horror franchises.

Christy Lemire FilmWeek (KPCC - NPR Los Angeles) I thought this was awesome... Yes, it plays the hits, but in a slightly different key. It's different enough for me to have had fun. Sep 16, 2024 Full Review Philip De Semlyen Time Out Every possible ingredient has surely been used, every angle exhausted. Major props, then, to Fede Álvarez for cooking up something fresh in this furiously exciting, gnarly seventh entry. He’s even found the eggs, too. Rated: 4/5 Sep 11, 2024 Full Review Stephen Kearse The New Republic You can see the gears turning in every scene, and feel the film dutifully avoiding, well, alienation, the unknown, the discomfiting. Aug 30, 2024 Full Review Maitland McDonagh MaitlandOnMovies (Substack) [S]ucceeds in striking a balance among fulfilling expectations, adding details to its miserable futurescape, landing solid shocks, doing fan service ... and delivering at least a couple of images we haven’t seen before. Jan 20, 2025 Full Review Michael Nordine Movie Brief What is new under this shrouded sun is a xenomorph variant that violently emerges in the third act and is as gloriously gnarly as any other creature birthed by the franchise. Rated: 3/4 Jan 17, 2025 Full Review David Hogan hoganreviews.co.uk Alien: Romulus is something of a greatest hits mixtape of a movie, taking some great set-pieces, visual iconography and character tropes from the original four movies and meshing them together in a very enjoyable, if not predictable, two-ish hours. Jeremy I really enjoyed this! this is my 2nd favorite out of the franchise! Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/19/25 Full Review Meccassault If you're a diehard fan of the Alien franchise, you'll probably love it just because it does bring back vibes of the first two films. If you're not biased to that but a fan, like me, you'll probably have a similar view as I. The film has its characters that are dumb and annoying and make dumb decisions. The Xeno barely does anything as per usual. The main threats are actually the face huggers. it's basically the same thing we've seen every Alien film. The fact that (spoiler alert) a young girl who's inexperienced at fighting the Xeno somehow manages to easily wipe out most of them with a gun shes never used with auto aiming. 🤦🏻‍♂️ Rated 2 out of 5 stars 01/10/25 Full Review Ryan Bad casting, bad story, bad pacing. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 01/05/25 Full Review Crystal C New life in a beloved franchise. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/01/25 Full Review Cole I saw Romulus 4 times in theaters and now that time has passed wish I could of went for a 5th Rated 5 out of 5 stars 12/31/24 Full Review alicia THE BEST IN THE SERIES Rated 5 out of 5 stars 12/29/24 Full Review Read all reviews
