Christy Lemire FilmWeek (LAist) I thought this was awesome... Yes, it plays the hits, but in a slightly different key. It's different enough for me to have had fun. Sep 16, 2024 Full Review Philip De Semlyen Time Out Every possible ingredient has surely been used, every angle exhausted. Major props, then, to Fede Álvarez for cooking up something fresh in this furiously exciting, gnarly seventh entry. He’s even found the eggs, too. Rated: 4/5 Sep 11, 2024 Full Review Stephen Kearse The New Republic You can see the gears turning in every scene, and feel the film dutifully avoiding, well, alienation, the unknown, the discomfiting. Aug 30, 2024 Full Review Sarah Cartland Caution Spoilers Seven films into this franchise, Alien: Romulus manages to be both terrifying and comforting; the audience revisiting their haunted childhood home, relieved to be tucked up in their old bed even if it does levitate. Rated: 4/5 Mar 8, 2025 Full Review Jared Mobarak Hey, Have You Seen ...? We care so much about [Spaeny and Jonsson] that we almost forget the obvious threads to this film’s predecessors that won’t stop popping up. Stop strangling good ideas to expand your IP with the constraints of needless IP familiarity. Rated: 7/10 Jan 31, 2025 Full Review Ethan Sills New Zealand Herald Spaeny as Rain and [David] Jonsson as Andy are the two clear standouts in this movie... the two are given the most fleshed-out characters, and they have great chemistry together as Andy changes during the movie. Corey P Guys, Alien Romulus was awesome. This was the first genuinely suspenseful movie I’ve seen in a very long while. The premise is super simple, and there’s only six main cast members, yet the stakes in this movie feel so heavy! This film IS scary. But like so many before it, it’s scary because of the atmosphere. The sense of dread builds from one scene to the next constantly. Once one obstacle is cleared, a more danger one presents itself. I don’t know that I’ve ever seen a movie in which a situation escalates as consistently as it does in this one. The cast does a fantastic job. Cailee Spaeny and David Jonsson are the two standouts as the main characters. They carry this movie on their shoulders and do a phenomenal job. The other four characters are fleshed out well enough that they feel like real people more so than cannon fodder. You really can’t tell who will survive and who won’t until the end credits roll. The visual effects in this movie are great. There are some truly beautiful shots of outer space, and some very convincing set pieces. I’ve seen online that almost 100% of the face-huggers are practical, and around half of the Xenomorphs are. It is impressive how tangible these aliens feel compared to other sci-fi films. They do some very creative things with the setting in this movie as well, especially with artificial gravity. Gravity plays a huge role in some of the action, and it makes for some very creative sequences. Nonetheless, this movie’s third act! Hohoho… You think it’s over, but again, the tension never stops building, and I’ve never had a visceral reaction in my seat like this film’s final reveal gave me. You just wait for the nightmares that you’ll get that night! 4 out of 5. Very happy to see such an iconic franchise get the TLC it deserves! Rated 4 out of 5 stars 05/07/25 Full Review Russ S Excellent story and action. Great creativity and storytelling. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 05/06/25 Full Review Marcus Country Club Hills It is past time to put this tired franchise to bed. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 05/05/25 Full Review DeWayne more of what we watch the franchise for, with a couple of tweaks to make it feel intriguing. good for fans, probably better for people that haven't seen every movie in the franchise Rated 4 out of 5 stars 05/03/25 Full Review Devon fun film would watch again Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/28/25 Full Review Gerardo very fun and scary, feels like going into a haunted house but in space. the gore is there and the acting is amazing! definitely recommend.
