Critics Consensus

Well-acted, genuinely unsettling, and occasionally even funny, #alive proves the crowded zombie genre still has fresh stories to tell.

Elisabeth Vincentelli New York Times "#Alive" is a nifty little thriller that proves that you can always find signs of life in the most undead of genres. Sep 11, 2020 Full Review Nick Allen RogerEbert.com #Alive hardly tries to do something new, and leaves its few surprises to a loud jump scare here, or a nifty zombie kill there. Rated: 2.5/4 Sep 9, 2020 Full Review Jae-Ha Kim Jae-Ha Kim (Substack) Led by Yoo Ah-in, #ALIVE begins with his character gaming and enjoying solitude. After a virus mysteriously turns citizens into zombies, everyone's ordered to lockdown at home. But what happens when food runs out and utilities are turned off? Rated: 3/4 Nov 9, 2024 Full Review Keith Garlington Keith & the Movies It does do some cool and interesting things within the zombie genre which makes this more then some B-movie hack job. Rated: 3.5/5 Aug 17, 2022 Full Review Louisa Moore Screen Zealots This fast-paced Korean thriller proves there are still fresh stories to tell when it comes to the walking dead. Rated: 3.5 / 5 Nov 13, 2020 Full Review Felix Vasquez Jr. Cinema Crazed Never boring, consistently creepy, and inspires so much more hope than most zombie pictures unleashed on horror fans these days. Audience Member While the movie had a different, interesting take it was difficult to not roll my eyes at times. As one commenter said, the zombies had teleporting skills to enter apartments without any sounds. The lead actor is on the 8th floor apartments and for some reason, zombies enter the apartment complex and head upstairs. The zombies hear sounds and quickly turn to find the reason, but when zombies run and hit walls, those sounds do not attract them. A zombie sees a long rope and decides, "Hm, my brain is dead but my curiosity entices me to climb this rope because I know someone put it there." And the lead actor must have had his food delivered by uber because he never used a knife to unalive the undead. But i did watch it to the end. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 02/17/25 Full Review Leo H Mmm la película en si y su historia es buena pero si deja mucho que desear jeje pero si es disfrutable y entretenida si la recomiendo Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 01/24/25 Full Review Samuel A This is the most realistic movie I have ever seen. Thank you so much for publishing this jewel. I really hope there’s a sequel coming soon:) Who would’ve thought that 2 hours of watch time would make me feel so accomplished and enlightened. #Alive #Masterpiece PS. Please take this mf down ASAP! Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 12/28/24 Full Review Fake N It's a zombie movie I feel like there's not much that you can do diffrent to the rest of them Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 10/04/24 Full Review Matthew B Rammbock: Berlin Undead, REC, The Night Eats The World... the trope of being stuck in a claustrophobic apartment building during a zombie apocalypse is nothing new and has been done quite well in the past. #Alive manages to add another entry to this subgenre of the zombie film and keep it feeling fresh. A big factor that contributes to the freshness of this film is that it takes place in the modern age and incorporates technology into the storyline in a way that feels realistic and relatable. It also features a strangely happy ending which is somewhat uncommon for a zombie film but is quite refreshing. I enjoyed the chemistry between the two main protagonists who have to find creative ways to help each other survive, living across the street from each other in an apartment complex with a horde of infected in between them. This is a very enjoyable film and a welcome edition to not just the Korean zombie genre but the zombie genre in general. Recommended. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 09/30/24 Full Review Audience Member A brilliant well crafted zombie movie that once again proves south Koreans know how to make a movie.
